Walter Slack

SLACK, WALTER Walter M. Slack of Lake City passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Belle Oakes Living Center. He was 84 years old. He was born November 14, 1927 to Walter K. and Ruth (McClelland) Slack in Saginaw, MI. He married the former Gladys Loesel, June 13, 1953 in Richville, MI. Walter was the sales manager for Michigan Sugar Company in Saginaw for many years. They attended Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw and later attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cadillac. He had a great passion for woodworking, and also enjoyed photography, camping, golfing, traveling with his wife, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Walter was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his caring wife, Gladys; children, Gail (Bruce) Bordt of Milford, Thomas (Maura) Slack, DDS of Portage, Ann (Kevin) Kitchin of Alamo, CA; daughter-in-law, Mary Slack of Mankato, MN; and 12 grandchildren, Diane, Jason (Meghan), Daniel, Karen, Ryan, Ross, Spencer, Matthew, Mariah, Alina, Benjamin and Jonathan. He is also survived by one brother, William (Kay) Slack, MD of Duluth, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary McGraw and a son, James Slack, PhD. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Monday, October 29, 2012 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cadillac with Rev. Joel Hess officiating.
