Norbert V. Forbes

FORBES, MR. NORBERT V. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence with his wife and family by his side. Age 89 years. The son of the late Eugene and Anna (Burke) Forbes, Norbert was born January 26, 1925 in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended St. Andrew High School and served honorably in the infantry during WWII as a member of the Timberwolves where he earned a Bronze Star. Norbert graduated from Assumption College after the war. He married Helen Greene, his loving wife of 63 years, on November 26, 1949. Norbert was employed at Farm Bureau Insurance for 33 years until his retirement. He was a devout Catholic and was a lifetime member of St. Andrew Catholic Church where he served as an usher. Norbert was an avid fan of Michigan State University. He loved being with his family and spending time with them. In retirement, he enjoyed attending and supporting his grandchildren's activities with his wife Helen. Surviving besides his wife Helen are his children, Anne (John) West, Saginaw; Barbara Forbes, San Diego, California; Mary (Tim) Bridwell, Pine Mountain, California; Michael (Marney) Forbes, Vienna, Virginia; Karen (Joseph) Hufford, Carmel, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Stephane Forbes, St. Charles, Illinois; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Ashley) and JoAnne (Matthew Heilbronn)West, Cooper and Kelsey Forbes, Lauren (Adam Jones) and Shannon Forbes, Adam and Benjamin Hufford; great-grandchildren, Alayna, Adelynn and Simon West and Eleanor Heilbronn; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Forbes, St. Charles; several nieces and nephews. Norbert was preceded in death by a son, David Forbes, a grandson, Jonathan Forbes West, and by two brothers and four sisters, Msgr. Eugene Forbes, Raymond Forbes, Anne Sullivan, Frances (Patricia) Deal, Margaret Clifford and Sister Rita Forbes. Honoring Mr. Forbes' wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Ronald Wagner will officiate. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Family and friends will pray the Rosary 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
