Gilbert Taylor Sprinkle Sr.

Gilbert T. Sprinkle Sr. SALISBURY - Gilbert Taylor Sprinkle Sr., 84, of Holmes Avenue, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Mr. Sprinkle was born in Rowan County on May 13, 1921, to the late Bertha Taylor Sprinkle and John "T.W." Sprinkle. A graduate of Boyden High School, he was employed by Southern Railway as a pipe fitter for 19 years. Later, he worked for the Salisbury Police Department and for the Rowan County Sheriff 's Department. He retired in May 1986. Mr. Sprinkle was a member of First Baptist Church in Spencer, Rowan County Peace Officers Association and Fulton Masonic Lodge 99. He was preceded in death by sisters Sue Eaton and Lib Clarke of Salisbury. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Barrier Sprinkle, whom he married June 13, 1941; sons Gilbert Sprinkle Jr. and wife Joyce of Rockwell and Keith Sprinkle and wife Lisa of Salisbury; daughters Peggy Summerlin of Lexington and Brenda Bernhardt of Salisbury; brother Thomas "Bud" Sprinkle of Salisbury; sister Frances Terrel of Winston-Salem; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation : Visitation will be from 7-9 tonight at Summersett Funeral Home. Service : The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Spencer with the Rev. Franklin Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
