Ruth Ellen Kernodle

SALISBURY - Ruth Ellen Randolph Kernodle, age 83, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Genesis Health Care.

Born Dec. 16, 1926, in Gilford County, she was the daughter to the late Maggie Elizabeth Cates and Major Lee Randolph. She graduated from Gibsonville High School in Gilford County.

Mrs. Kernodle was a homemaker and a long time member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church, an active member in Women's Society, a former member of the Board of trusties, and she taught in the kindergarten department for several years at Coburn Memorial.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by six brothers, Melvin, Osburne, Wesley, Herman, Jennings and Tommy Randolph; and one sister, Ailene Tarvin.

Those left to cherish her memory her husband of 62 years, William "Bill" Kernodle, whom she married May 16, 1948; one daughter, Emily Connolly and husband, Roger of Wading River, N.Y.; three grandchildren, April Zay and husband, Brian of Hamilton, N.J., Wendy Mullikin and husband, Ethan of Santa Clara, Calif., Brien Connolly and wife, Amy of Syracuse, N.Y.; and great-grandson, Elijah Zay.

Service and Burial: Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Annalee Allen, officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Park.

Visitation: Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at Summersett Funeral Home.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church, 901 South Church St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

I am deeply sorry for your loss and I have wonderful memories of us as very young children together in Eaman Park. Your mother was so lovely, genuinely kind, and welcoming to everyone. She will be missed and remembered.
