Darlene Abrams Obituary
ROCKWELL - Mrs. Darlene Burgess Abrams, 46, of Rockwell, passed away on April 24, 2013, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte.
Mrs. Abrams was born Jan. 7, 1967, to Mary Margo Sutphin Pennington of Rockwell and the late Gerald Gray Pennington.
Darlene was a 1986 graduate of East Rowan High School. She was a member of Grace Bible Church, where she also worked as a preschool teacher. She enjoyed gardening and the children's ministry at Grace Bible.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Abrams is survived by her husband, Kenneth Ray Burgess-Abrams of Rockwell; sons C.J. Gordy of Rockwell and Greysen Gordy of Salisbury; daughter Retta Grace Moser of the home; stepdaughters Kristen and Saige Abrams of Florida; brothers Gerald "Gray" Pennington Jr. and fiancee Lisa of Rockwell and Hilton Dean Pennington of Olympia, Wash.; sisters Tammy Melissa Hartford and husband Roy of Rockwell; aunt Lois Pennington of Mocksville; niece Mary Cole Hand Aguilera and husband Edwin and their daughter Jasmin of Gold Hill; in-laws Leroy and Christine Abrams of Florida; and brother and sister-in-law Scott and Rachael Abrams of Florida.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Thursday, April 25 at Powles Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Service: The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 26 at Grace Bible Church conducted by Pastor Joey Phillips and Pastor Bob Loper. Mrs. Abrams will lie-in-state for 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The burial will be private.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church where a family memorial has been established for the purpose of defraying medical and other expenses. Checks may be made payable to Grace Bible Church, c/o Family Benevolent Memorial, 6725 Hwy. 152 E., Rockwell, NC 28138.

Darlene will forever live in my heart as a dear sweet soul who lived her life daily for The Lord. Always happy, patient, with only kind words for all. You touched so many lives in your short time here, but will never ever be forgotten. Oh how we miss you. Eli has had quite a time with this. We have so many memories to cherish. We had so much fun on the lake with everyone. Remember me, you, Rhetta and Eli holding on for dear life as daddy pulled us around on that huge raft. We were all laughing so hard! We missed you, Ken and Rhetta today at the dog show. You guys helped us sooooo much! Glenn and I are exhausted! I don't know how we did it without you. Eli has been to the cemetery twice already, daddy took him today and they talked thru a lot. Oh how he loved you, you were like a second mom to him. We will miss you, your smile and laugh. We pray for your family and peace for all they have to face. She is very loved at Grace Bible Church and will be missed so much. She is so much better off with Jesus than we are here and I am sure she would not come back if she could. She is in paradise!
