David Denkers Obituary

1942 ~ 2012
David Geoffrey Denkers devoted father, grandfather and friend was taken unexpectedly from us Friday May 18, 2012. David was born July 13, 1942 to Harold G. and Julia D. Denkers of Ogden Utah. He was the youngest of 5 children; Donna Bramwell, Lee Denkers, Glen Denkers, and Stephen G. Denkers. All preceded him in death, except for his older brother and longtime hunting/fishing partner Stephen. David attended Polk elementary, central school and graduated from Ogden high school in 1960. David served as a chef for the Union Pacific Railroad for a few summers where Yellowstone National Park became his home. It was during this time that his love for the park developed and lasted throughout his entire life. David attended Weber State University, the University of Utah and went on to Colorado State University where he graduated from the school of veterinary medicine in 1968. Following Graduation, David married Lizbeth Case and moved to Oahu Hawaii where he practiced veterinary medicine for two years. David and Liz moved to Salt Lake City in 1970 where David purchased what is now known as Denkers Veterinary Hospital. They had three children; Christopher, Nathaniel and LeAnn. Later David was blessed with four grandchildren; Devin, Allie and Ryan (Nate) and Kelton (LeAnn). Dad was a hard worker and nothing exemplified this more than his passion and love for his clinic, clients and animals of Denkers Veterinary Hospital for the last 42 years. Whether it was calming or amusing an animal or their owner, dad's personality and honesty is what everyone loved and appreciated more than anything. The Veterinary world lost a true good natured soul with "D's"passing. Aside from work dad had a passion for hunting, fishing, cooking, traveling, his grandchildren, his time with Anne and Katherine and for going fast in his iconic Porsche's. He was a long time member of the Masonic order, Rotary club, Ducks Unlimited, The Canadian Goose Club, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association and the Porsche Club of America.
David is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, niece Catherine Bramwell and nephew Paul Denkers. He is survived by his brother Stephen G. Denkers (Susan) of Ogden; children Christopher Denkers of Salt Lake City, Nathaniel (Natalie) Denkers of Loveland Co, and LeAnn (Tyler) James of Loveland, Co.; grandchildren Devin, Allie, Ryan and Kelton as well as two nieces, one nephew and eight great nieces and nephews.
He will be missed tremendously by his kids; grandkids, family, friends and scores of fish, Geese, dogs and all that knew him.
A social soiree in David's memory will be held Fri. June 1, 2012 at The Depot,400 West South Temple, in The Blue Goose room from 5-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, his kids have asked that you make a donation in his honor to the Greater Yellowstone Coalition at P.O. Box 1874, Bozeman, MT 59771. Our three animals and us loved Dr. Denkers, who had been our vet for seven years. We were greatly saddened by the news of his passing. We enjoyed his cheerful personality on every visit. We always felt our family was in really good hands. We always will be grateful for the kind service and support we received. Our thoughts are with Dr. Denkers family.

Dear Chris, Nate, and LeAnn,
We were very sorry to see this very hard time for all 3 of you. Although we haven't been together as good "Bowling Buddies of Olympus Hill's Jr. Bowling League" for a very long time, we still have very fond thoughts and loving memories of trips to Utah Olympic Grames together, and great Sat. morning times. Our love goes out to you at this very sad time. Sincerely, Sheila Wood, Tom, David, Raymond Kinnick and Debbie (Kinnick) Davis.

Dr. Denkers will be greatly missed. He helped so many of his patients and their less than perfect humans. He helped my husband and I become better dog caretakers. He was able to gently advise us, but sometimes had to take a more direct approach. He saved both of our dogs' lives. We dread the idea that if we need his help/advice, he will not be there. To his family and close friends: thank you for sharing his kindness, caring and devotion for our animals. He has many friends waiting at the rainbow bridge.

This is sad day in our home. We just learned of Dr. Denkers passing. He lovingly cared for our 3 dogs since 1974 and done a wonderful job on all of them. My wife was convinced that out of all of the animals he treated, he loved ours the most.... :-) His shoes will be hard to fill. Our hearts go out to the family.

We lovelingly called Dr. Denkers the cat whisperer. He was so wonderful to all our pets. He helped me personally to make the hard decisions when I had a very ailing pet and I'll never forget how caring he was during that process. I extend my condolences to his entire family and I know he'll be missed by so many people.

My cats and I got to know Dr. Denkers when we lived a short distance from his office. We visited the office for convenience sake, but were pleasantly surprised by Dr. Denkers' caring and knowledge and his ability to teach complicated veterinary concepts in a simple manner. When I finally came to my senses and began adopting dogs, one of my girls had heartworm. I will never forget Dr. Denkers educating me on the dangers of heartworm, complete with a model heart. He gave her the treatment and she pulled through---and 10 years later is still going strong. Thanks for everything, Dr. Denkers. Say hi to Cia, Gidget, Emi, Oscar and Felix for me.

To the Denkers family:
We were saddened to hear about Dr. D's passing. We've been taking our basset hounds to him since 1981 and will really miss his care and advice. He was a larger than life personality and such a caring vet. Our thoughts go out to his family and his staff.

We are truly saddened to hear of Doctor D's passing. For the past 29 years our pets (4 cats and 5 dogs) have been cared for by Dr. D. It was always a pleasure to see Dr. D, who always had an amusing story to tell during our visits. He had a great touch with animals and was very personable. My dogs say that he always had the best doggie treats.
Our condolences go out to his family. We have all lost a truly fine man.

Dr. Dave was a valued vet for our family cats - and a long-time friend to our two boys. We were saddened to hear of his sudden death and send our love and sympathy to Christopher, Nate, and LeAnn and to the extended family and many friends. Dave's untimely passing creates an emptiness that be softened with memories of Dave's "bigger than life personality" and his love for family and many interests. May God bless you all and surround you with His love.

I just can't imagine a world without Dr. D. He has taken wonderful care of all my dogs for 20 years, and became a very good friend. I don't know what we will all do without his encouragement, enthusiasm, advice, compassion and humor. He truly loved dogs, and completely understood how important they are to their people. One in a million, indeed.

I was so saddened today to learn of Dr. Denkers passing. He was a gentle soul, I always felt safe when taking my dogs to visit him. He made it easier to make the tough decision to let Basil go, gave us insights into Max and Jackson. I will always remember his kindnesses and patience with me.

Dr. Denkers was our family's vet and cared for our pet Bambi for many years. As a child, I loved going to Denkers Veterinary Hospital for Bambi's visits and will always remember Dr. Denker's compassion, skill and empathy in caring for our dog - he lived to be 17 in such skilled hands. Dr. Denkers shall be missed. My deepest condolences to the Denkers family.

I went to high school with David, but didn't know him that well. Later, at Weber State we became good friends. I was a newspaper reporter in Salt Lake not long after he established his practice there. One time I wrote a story about him and his practice that appeared in the paper and David just thought that was wonderful. I was just doing my job, but I look back on it -- and him -- with great fondness. He was a great guy to know and be around. I'm glad he had such a positive impact on so many peoples' lives.

Doctor D. cared for our dogs and cats for over 35 years. I remmber sitting in front of the clininc on a rainy cold night crying my eyes out after he put down our cat of 16 years ... he was so compassionate and such a gentle spirit ... a truly remarkable individual. ... Iam glad there are cats and dogs and fish and birds in heaven.

I met Dr. Denkers about 27 years ago and while living in SLC he was the ONLY person I would let treat my animals. His humor and honesty helped me with difficult decisions. When I first moved to Idaho Falls I even called him about my cat because I did not trust the vet I had at the time here. As usual, he gave me advice and helped me with my decision. May the force be with you Dr. Denkers.....there are a lot of animals waiting for you in heaven.

Dr. Denkers was our family's standard of excellence. We first took our beloved pet (Buzz, our black mutt dog) to him at Nipko Veterinary. I counted 23 pets in our family of five he cared for over the past 4+ decades. He was a caring, honest, empathetic, and "always there" veterinarian. He will indeed be deeply missed. I worked for Dr. D for a while and he changed my life forever. He was an amazing man and vet! He wasn't just a boss, he was a friend. My life is better for having known him. The world lost a great person and the animals lost a friend. My condolences go out to his family and friends. He was irreplaceable.

May 28, 2012

I first met David when he hired me as a kennel boy in his practice in 1970. He showed me what being a veterinarian is truely about, being an advocate for the pet's health and comfort and being a friend to the owner. David was a large part of my success in gaining admission to the professional program at Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. David was my mentor in life and in my career. He taught me many of the things that I still use in my practice to this day. David, thank you for all the wisdom, laughs, friendship and guidance you provided me with over the past 40 years. It will never be forgotten.

We feel so blessed to have enjoyed the company of Dr. 'D' for the limited time we knew him. From a selfish standpoint, we had looked forward to more visits and laughter. Along with Tyler and LeAnn, we were anxiously anticipating our first trip to visit David in his home this coming Fall. We thank you, David, for your friendship, your wonderful daughter, LeAnn, and for the very special relationship you shared with our son, Tyler. We grieve for them so much. We so wish that our precious grandson, Kelton, could have come to know and enjoy you. God speed our friend and may you rest in peace.

I am heartbroken hearing about Dr. Denkers! He is truly irreplaceable and will always be loved and missed! I can only imagine him now surrounded by pups and cats and being licked and loved! He was our family vet for over 30 years and was so kind, caring, and knowledgable. I told him that he could never retire even though he wanted to because he was so irreplaceable and he knew that was true. We should've all been lucky enough to have Dr. Denkers stay with us forever, but he has left such a legacy of love, caring and kindness that he will alway be missed and never forgotten! Thank you so much for everything Dr. Denkers, you cared for Brutus, Jennifer, Riley, Dash, Thunder, Domino, Charlie, and Bailey, all my beloved family!

Thank you with all my heart!

I am so distraught over this news, I truly loved him. Dr. Denkers is beyond description in his skills and humanitarian way in which he cared for my dogs, he was so caring and soothing for both the pets and the owner. We always would talk goose hunting, telling stories. I will never forget him, whenever I think of my dogs I think of Dr. Denkers and the care and compassion he delivered. An incredible vet and an even more incredible human being. He will be sorely missed. This is very painful.

Dr. D was my trusted veterinarian for over forty years. The first time I met him was when I brought in my very sick cat Bons to the Nipko Vet Clinic. He would go on to take care of all our family of pets with humor, compassion, honesty and tenderness. I loved the way he would slide the cats down the exam table to distract them while he gave them their shots. By the time they figured out what was going on it was all over ans he was giving them treats.

He helped guide us when it was time to say good-bye and on occasion shed a tear along with us. Such compassion not only to us but to our family as well.

I was so sad to learn of his untimely passing, however I will be forever grateful to have had the opportunity to experience his expertise, humor, and compassionate care.

Dr. D you will have many furry friends to greet you on youur next great adventure. Give some chin scratches to Zoee, Chyna, Asia, Alby, Shasta Mitize, Tipper and all the rest of our pet family.

To the family of Dr. Denkers, my deepest sympathy and thank you for sharing your incredible father with all of us.

Dear Denkers Family,
We are saddened at the loss of a wonderful man ,good friend, and GREAT Veterinarian.
He was honest, compassionate, caring,at times humerous and always went the extra mile for both clients and their "children".
According to him there was never a dumb question.
He always was willing to give us extra time, even though he had others waiting.
We could never ever thank him enough for everything he has done over the years to keep our "children" healthy and with us as long as possible.
He always had treats for our dogs and they would sit there and take them as long as he would give them.
I know that he is at The Rainbow Bridge and is being greeted by
ALL of those beautiful dogs, cats, and other animals he has taken care of all years in practice. Knowing him he has a pocketful of treats for each and everyone of them.
David please give Cappie, Willie, Tigger,Sarge and Mouse a big hug and lots of love for us.
We Thank God this wonderful man came into our live.
WE will miss him Dearly.

Dr. Denker was our family vet since I was a little girl, first taking care of our dog Mitzi and our cat Taffy. He saw us through Minnie and Daisy until their deaths and has taken care of Jude, Spike, Poppy and Kitten. Even when I lived out of state, I would come back in town with my dog to see him because he was the only vet I ever trusted. I was very sorry and very sad to hear of his death but am forever grateful for the care he has shown my most precious assets. Thank you. You will be missed.

I am so sorry for the loss of a wonderful man in this world. Not only did I love his caring, compassion, wisdom and humor - my dogs loved his tender touch, honesty and treats in his pockets. He spent the needed time with anyone to answer their questions and grieve with us all when he tenderly helped our four legged family members out of their pain and suffering onto a better place. He comforted us all that needed it. He made us all feel our pets were the most important thing in the world when he was examining them. David,
You treated Tess's heart, Rusty's cancer, helped keep Magpie the Cat ticking for 24 years, removed Rex's tumor and helped Crazy Daisy with her breathing issues. I shall miss hearing you tell me how nobody could spoil a good Doberman and turn them into "mama's babies," as well as I could.
Now if you could just tell us how to mend all the hearts that have been broken by you leaving us so suddenly and so soon.
God speed David.

I was thunderstruck when I saw Dr. Denkers' obituary today, and I'm still weeping off and on. As I was running errands, I was composing in my head what I wanted to write, and then realized it would be way too much. Here's the short version.
Within a month of my arrival in 1976, my beagle was hit and injured. The vet on call that night at Central Valley Emergency Vet was David Denkers, and he has been a blessing in my life for 36 years. He was a true friend to each of my dogs in succession, and Willie, Sandy, Rosie and Emmitt are no doubt enjoying his ear scratches and tummy rubs at this very moment (or at least patiently waiting in line with all the other dogs and cats who were there to greet him). One of his outstanding attributes was being able to gently lead humans to let go when it was time. He clearly always had the best interests of his patients at heart, and they returned his love.

What a beautiful tribute to a man who has touched the lives of so many. My heart is filled with so many memories of him and the entire Denker's family. Chris, Nate and LeAnn all three of you are a testament to what a great man he was, and he was so very proud to be your father. He would beam with complete happiness when he would speak of his grandchildren. He was such a kind hearted man and will be missed by so many. The Gardner's wish everyone that knew "D" peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Not only did you care for my dogs and cats, but for me and my son...you celebrated with us every time we adopted a new "family member, you were reassuring when one of them was ill or hurt, and compassionate when it was time to say goodbye to them. Those of us left behind will always remember you! See you at the rainbow bridge someday! Please give Annie and Maggie some big hugs from me.

Be assured that Dr. Denkers is gratefully remembered by the thousands of pets and their owners, whom he lovingly cared for over his many years in Utah (I count myself and my several rescue pets among them).

Dr Denkers was the vet for numerous animals that owned me, while I lived in Salt Lake for 20 years. His kindness and compassion will never be forgotten-I am so sorry to hear of his passing,

I'm sad to hear that we lost such an amazing Vet! My family have been taking our animals to him for 20+ years. We always knew we would get an honest answer from him if we had questions concerning our pets. My condolences to his family and friends.

David, you were the best doc to our five dogs over these 30 years. You had such an amazing gift of knowing when something was not right and the skill to heal. Gary and I will never forget all of your knowledge, instinct and kindness with our furry family.
Throughout these years we have worked together in doing your hospital and home. It was a joy working with you and you are a true gentleman. Lastly, we were able to share and enjoy good food and wine with you on many occasions. You lived life with gusto, practiced your healing arts with passion and had great compassion for creatures great and small. You were a man of honestly and honor and you will be greatly missed. We raise our glass to you, dear friend, and you will always be in our hearts.

I got to know Dr. D as being my wife's employer. She worked while D and I chatted about hunting, wine, and Montana. When he would get to his stories, they were just neat, neat stories and it was always a pleasure to talk with him. I know from my wife that he loved his "furry" friends (even the feathered ones) and was well-received by many "important" people in the Salt Lake area for their pets but I got to know Dr. D for his ribs (in that egg cooker) and salmon! What a great chef he must have been because he was an excellent cook. I admired him for his adventures, his family, his business and especially his friendship with me. What a great man with such a wonderful life. God Bless you Dr. D, David, and thank you for sharing a part of you with me. Rest easy, rest peacefully my friend.

David was well known in the United States for being a great veterinarian. He was respected for his skills as a veterinarian and I can tell you that I have known him for 36 years and I always called him when I went to Salt Lake City. He was a lover of life and the outdoors. He was always helpful to everyone and his honest assesments on many things like veterinary medicine, wildlife, his children( that he adored ), are going to be sorely missed. He was a person one could trust. He was honest. He was very intelligent and well informed and he of served both man and animals all the years that I have known him. I am shocked, saddened, and feeling a large hole in my life right now. I wish all of you that knew him some solace. After-all inspite of the passing of this great man, we were fortunate enough to know and spend some time with him.
