Kevin Taylor Obituary

Kevin Brooke Taylor
1950 - 2014
Kevin Brooke Taylor, age 64, passed away on November 4, 2014 from ALS at his home in Draper, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City, UT on August 13, 1950 to Elden Virl Taylor and Betty Louise Parry. He grew up in Rose Park and had a wonderful childhood. He served an LDS mission in the Texas South Spanish mission where he met his sweetheart, Gerri F. Klein (BB). They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on January 12, 1973 and spent 41 wonderful years together. They were blessed with four beloved children and one grandson. Kevin spent his career in information technology at US West and the University of Utah. He had the pleasure of spending 4 ½ years as an inner city missionary with Gerri', serving the Spanish and Brazilian members whom he dearly loved. He had a deep commitment to the gospel and faithfully served his entire life.
Kevin accepted and loved all people, regardless of their differences. He was kind and fair in his dealings with everyone. He was a true friend to the underdog and marginalized. He was a peacemaker and had an ability to bring people together. He had a natural curiosity for science. He was an amateur astronomer, loved physics, and was a mad scientist. He loved all of God's creations and taught his children to respect all living things, even ants. He loved the national parks and was often mistaken for a park ranger because he enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge. He was a fearless adventurer and loved flying his ultralight and skydiving. He was a skilled musician, played his tenor guitar beautifully, and composed and recorded many original songs. He loved spending time playing the guitar with his son Joel. He loved going to Hawaii with Gerri' and enjoyed many hours snorkeling with the sea turtles and whale watching. He accepted life's challenges, including ALS, with patience, dignity, and humor. He lived a very blessed and happy life and was adored by BB and his children.
Kevin was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Betty. He is survived by his wife, Gerri'; his children Thomas (April), Kristin, Lindsay, and Joel; and his precious grandson Ian Riley. He is survived by his father, Elden; his siblings, Steven (Donna), Kathy Brown (Dennis), Shannon Steoger (Michael), Linda Nielson (Douglas), David, Julie Smith (Sterling); and his mother-in-law, Mildred Singer Klein.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 8, 2014, 11:00 am at the Draper 17th Ward, 1600 E. 12700 S. Viewings will be Friday, November 7, 2014, 6-8 pm, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT, and Saturday 9:30-10:30 am prior to the services at the ward. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens. I was saddened to learn of Kevin's passing. We grew up together in Rose Park, and attended school together. I always admired how people gravitated toward him. I don't believe I ever heard anyone say anything negative about him, and he could always make me laugh till I'd hurt. My father had ALS, so I know first-hand the unbelievable challenges the two of you faced. I'm so thankful he had your beautiful love and care. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and your family. God bless and comfort you until you, and your beloved Kevin, are reunited again.

Words can not describe the loss felt by every person to ever have contact with this amazing man. I've known him since we were 5 years old and I always knew he was special. Families are forever and for eternity, he was one of the angels from heaven who helped others realize it. Kevin was a giant among everyone and will leave his mark on all of us. Please know how much he inspired me. I have been dealing with illness for 7 years and his example inspires me to continue. When I'm having a down day, I think of him, I read his blog and I see what true strength is. Kevin you will never be forgotten and I know you are sitting at the feet of Jesus just waiting to teach his message

Dear Gerri & family,
Sending hugs & prayers to you from some long lost neighbors from 30 years ago. I rarely go through Deseret News obituaries but somehow I did..we were so saddened to see Kevin's obituary here. Even though we were neighbors for a brief time, you & Kevin left a huge impression on our family. Please know that you are in our thoughts & prayers at this difficult time. Sadly, we lost our sweet daughter Jessica to a car accident 19 years ago(she was 18 when she passed). Can't even start to imagine how we would have survived without the knowledge of our Heavenly Father's eternal plan for all of us. May you find comfort & peace in knowing that Kevin is always right by your side & that your family IS forever. All our love, Melissa & Jack McIntyre--Dublin CA

Gerri and Family -

Kevin is one of my heroes and has shaped many aspects of my life and career. Rarely have I met someone who could step into a difficult situation with so much calmness and humor. In the years I worked with him he saved me countless times from doing really stupid things. I have missed him since I left the U and moved to Idaho and will continue to look forward to the time when I can again sit with him and enjoy his whit and counsel, My prayers go out to all of you this weekend. You are blessed to have had Kevin in your lives and will continue to feel his influence as he waits to be reunited with you.

Gerri and family, Both Russ and I were so sad to hear of Kevin's passing. Kevin was the only man that could make me blush EVERY Sunday. He was so funny and as I read the other tributes I realize that he did accept me as I was. I love this picture with that cute smile! We are all so blessed to have the gospel in our lives and know that we will all be back together soon. With much love to you all, Russ and Candice Smart xo

Kevin was a good colleague, a friend for twenty five years and one of the most Christlike men I know. We shared many experiences together. He is a choice person in every way, a loyal friend, honest and fair to the core, with the gift to be able to show love for everyone. He greatly enriched my life and the lives of many others. Thank you Kevin for choosing to be such a wonderful person. We will miss you greatly, but our memories of your kindness will never fade and neither will our faith that we will see you again. Condolences to Gerri and the kids.

Dear Gerri, and family,
There are no words to describe this loss. I've ALWAYS known Kevin, it all started in Kindergarten! Though there were many years in between graduation, and the re-connecting of the past five years or so, I treasure, the opportunity that I've had to know Kevin again! So happy he and Gerri were able to join us at some of the Alumni dinners and our Reunions. We shared many funny, happy times! When the ALS got worse, I saw him less, but kept up with him through his wonderful blog! He was a very smart, funny, sensitive man, whom I loved as a friend, I also respected and admired him. We had some good FB discussions, that I will always remember! He was such an inspiration to me, on how to endure to the end, and endure well. The way he accepted this trial, without complaint shows what a humble, teachable person he was. As sad as I am, I am happy that he is now well, and whole. He fought hard! I will miss him. Gerri, and Kevin's children, may the Holy Spirit whisper peace to you, and may you have comfort in the knowledge that FAMILIES ARE FOREVER! The Plan of Salvation is TRUE, he knew it.......he will be watching over you, and waiting until it is your time to join him. Rely on your memories to help you through this time of sorrow. He was a giant of a man! Go now, and Rest in Peace, my dear friend!

Gerri and Family,
I am deeply honored that I was able to know and learn from Kevin, especially how he taught me unconditional love for all. Kevin was always respected by all no matter where he went and always provided humor in only a way that Kevin could. Our world is much better today because Kevin lived and you shared this great person with all of us. Kevin loved his family from the bottom of his soul and worshipped you BB. For ALS to take him is beyond comprehension when Kevin had so much to give and offer. A piece of our hearts will always be with you Kevin – Rest well our friend.

Uncle Eldon, Gerri, and family. I was both saddened yet glad for Kevin's passing. My loving cousin always had time for us kids. He always had a smile and kind words for us all. I know he had a joyous reunion with Aunt Betty and those Taylor's who preceded him. Family's are forever and I look forward to our meeting again. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I went to school with Kevin from elementary on up. I also worked at US West, but not directly with him. I feel as though he has always been in my life. He was such a sweet and gentle soul. I will miss him terribly. ALS is a horrible disease, I am truly saddened that such a great man was taken from us too soon by this disease. My deepest condolences to his family. I am so truly sorry for your loss as well as the loss felt by all of us who knew and loved Kevin. Rest well my friend.
