LARRY JEX Obituary

Larry Jex "Otis" Our loving father, husband, grandpa and devoted friend passed away peacefully on October 29, 2010 with his family at his side. Born to Lawrence S. and Elsie Lavon Kay on December 17, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Larry owned his own businesses in the auto industry for 51 years, first at J & S Motors and then the last 30 years at Larry Jex Auto Sales. He served for 26 years in various leadership positions on the board of the Utah Independent Auto Dealers Association. He married Marie Greene in 1966 and had many good years and two children. They later divorced and in 2003 he married his high-school sweetheart Karen Bringhurst. Karen has cared for him faithfully throughout his illness. Larry had a great respect for hard work and a real love for leisure. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his dogs. He enjoyed a good horse race and a great card game. Larry was a friend to many and he will be missed by all who knew him. Larry is survived by wife Karen, two children Greg Jex and Shalmarie Bunker (Danny), four grandchildren, sister Linda Davidson and countless friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Newman and Cheryl with Rocky Mountain Hospice and Dr. Steven Desautels. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S.). Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 2nd from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation in Larry's memory.

To Larry's Family, you have my deepest condolences. I will miss Larry as a friend, a mentor, and a keen businessman. I have spent hours sitting next to him at car auctions & was smart enough to keep my ears open when he spoke...for he had knowledge of the auto business that few possess. I will miss him as a friend, but will always remember the "fatherly" advice he was willing to share with me! Dave Tischner

Shalmarie and Greg, I am saddened to hear of your dad's passing. Frank and I shared many great moments with him and your mom. I will always treasure the memories of our Monday night football parties and our travel to Hawaii. Those were, indeed, the "good ole' times". The last time I saw Larry was at your grandpa's funeral and he was "taking care" of me because I was by myself. He was so cute in saying "come sit with me" and taking me by the arm inside the mortuary chapel. He certainly was a big ole' teddy bear with a heart as big as the moon. I will miss him. All my love to you and your families. Love, Wilma Gamble
