DONALD KILPACK Obituary

Donald Ray Kilpack 1934 ~ 2011 Our precious loved one, Don Kilpack, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family April 21, 2011. Born December 30, 1934 in SLC to John Raymond and Lola Jane Aiken Kilpack. He married LaNita 'Pete' Granger April 9, 1955. They were later divorced but remained close friends throughout life spending time with and celebrating their five children. Don had a zest for life and touched the lives of all who knew him with his great sense of humor, beautiful singing voice and fun personality. He loved everyone and made friends easily. He always joked that he'd been born 50 years too late, as he loved everything about "cowboy" life; the mountains, desert, camping, fishing and horses. He loved spending time at the family cabin in Sanpete County and lived there for a few years after he retired. He loved laughter and good times. Don was born singing and had a beautiful base voice. He was listening to Marty Robbins when he passed away. He believed in being fair and honest, and was always a gentle and kind person. He was a bricklayer in his earlier years, then worked for the City of South Salt Lake, retiring after 12 years of service. He is survived by his five children William D. 'Bill' (Laura) Kilpack, Herriman; Robert J. 'Bob' (Joan) Kilpack, Bennion; Ray M. (Annette) Kilpack, Taylorsville; Kelly L Greco, St George; Cynthia D. 'Cindy' (Mitch) Smith, North Salt Lake, all in Utah; 21 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren; sister, Myrna (Claude) White, Sandy; Preceded in death by his parents and sister Deborah. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Woods Cross 5th Ward, 2064 S 800 W, Woods Cross, UT at 11a.m. with a viewing from 9:45-10:45 a.m.

Grandpa, you are sure missed. I am proud to have the middle name I have, something I'm going to treasure even more. I miss your sense of humor. The cabin wont be the same.

I am blessed to have known Don. From the earliest time I can remember he has always made me feel good about me. He took time when I was young to compliment me in many ways. I have the fondest memories of singing around the fire and then listening to Don talk to the family. For me, he was a true Icon. Someone that understood more than I did. I learned some reverence for life from him, and how to treat your neighbor too. I am very happy I knew Don and send my best to his family. Todd Lee

I have so many memories of you Grandpa. So many times we spent time at the cabin with you, you always made us laugh. The spaghetti dinners and vanilla ice cream we had many times at your house, you and I driving to fairview and talking non stop, watching 'what about bob' with you and laughing through the whole movie, going on walks at th cabin, listening to your stories and so much more! I'm glad you got to live at my parents house, it was nice to see you every weekend. I'm glad I got to spend time with you the last week of your life on earth. I love you! I miss you.

I grew up across the street from Don and the Kilpack family on Gregson Ave. I was a childhood friend of Myrna. I did not know Don very well, but I am impressed of the love expressed by friends and family. Myrna - may you and your family feel the love and comfort of our Heavenly Father at this difficult time.

I have so many great memories of time spent with you Grandpa Don: Driving to Mesquite for the day with you, breakfasts together and then you'd drive me to school, staying at your house while my parents were out of town and we ate Count Chocula cereal and Spaghettios. I'm grateful that you made time for me in your life so that I could be close to you and have the opportunity to have such great memories to hold on to. I loved your infectious laugh and sense of humor. I'll never be able to listen to Marty Robbins or any old cowboy song without thinking of you. I love you and am happy you are free of pain. Can't wait to see you again someday. Love you Gramps.

Our camping out to gether and all the fun times at our family get togethers. I loved Don's sense of humor. I admire the sweet humble children the two of you (Pete & Don) created. You certainley taught your children how to love. I love You all, Sister Jeri

Poppa, I'm going to miss the long phone conversations we've had the last couple of years. By the end of each phone call we were both lifted by your sense of humor and the opportunity we had to stay close. I saw your struggles and I'm so glad you are done suffering. It's a cherished memory for me the couple of days I spent taking care of you when you were so ill. I love and miss ya Pops...Your Dixie Girl.

Most sincere condolences to your wonderful family and you Kelly, my dear friend. I'm so sorry about your darling Dad. I always thought so much of him. He reminded me a lot of my Dad. He was a cowboy too. There are not many of the authentic ones left. Many hugs and kisses to you all!! Love, Lori Powell Dahlquist

My Precious Sis Petey and my Billy, Bobby, Ray, Kelly and Cindiloo - and all of your kids, grands and greats, my heart aches for each and everyone of you. Just think of the wonderful memories and good times you had with your Don, Dad, and Grampa. He filled the room with his deep bass laughter and rarely showed his serious side to his in-laws. What a voice, what a guy, he will be sorely missed!
My deepest love to each and everyone of you, your Sis and Aunt Mert

Such a void is left in our lives with your passing, Don. Through good times and bad, we remained close friends and confidants. Words can't express the ache in my heart, but I'm happy knowing that you are out of pain, singing and running again. Love you, Don, and the five beautiful, amazing children we created! Always! Pete
