JIM RENGSTORF Obituary

Jim G. Rengstorf 1969 ~ 2011 Jim passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 7, 2011.Born October 16, 1969, Jim was an amazingly talented artist and graphic designer. He used his creativity throughout his career as a graphic artist at City Weekly and later as the Creative Director for United Way of Salt Lake. Jim also ran his own graphic design company - Calyx Design. Jim dedicated much of his artistic talent to communities and organizations he loved and believed in. He was involved with the Asian communities of Utah and volunteered his time and professional services for the Asian Association of Utah, The Utah Asian Festival, Philippine American Association of Utah, and also served as a member of the Board of Directors and Creative Director for the Utah Asian Chamber of Commerce and the Utah Pride Center. Jim created logos, websites, and print and advertising material for many of these organizations - often pro-bono. He truly made the world a better place through his support, generosity, and creativity. Jim leaves behind his mother, Edith G. Rengstorf of Ogden and his partner, Jed Robbins who cared for him during his illness. Jim is survived by many members of the Gabiano family who live all over the world. Jim also leaves behind countless friends who supported and loved him and who got much more in return. Anyone who met Jim was no doubt touched by his generosities and personal commitments. Jim will be deeply missed by his partner, his family, his friends, and all the communities he had dedicated his life to supporting. Jim lived each day to the fullest, surrounding himself with positive energy from the people and causes that meant so much to him. At Jim's request, no service will be held. A wake to celebrate his life will be held for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, Jim requested that any and all donations be made to a Memorial account for him, which has been created at Wells Fargo bank in his memory.

Jim, you always made me smile. Whenever I ran into you at the numerous queer events we both attended, you'd dazzle me with your clothes, your style, and your charm. You were truly someone I looked forward to seeing; not only because of how I felt about you, but because of the way you made me feel inside. The way you'd tilt your head, smile slightly and flutter your eyelashes before saying something sassy will forever be etched in my brain. I'm glad I had the chance to work with you on numerous design projects for the Utah Pride Center. I'll never forget the compliment you gave me on one of the Winterpride brochures. You probably had no idea how much your words meant to me. Thank you for sharing your talents with me - I learned so much. Thank you for sharing yourself, too. I'm glad I could call you "friend." I love you, and I miss you so much, already. I'm so glad you found peace.

I loved your laugh! Miss my Jimmy!

Jed, I was so shocked and surprised to see Jim's obit. I adored Jim when I worked with him at American Stores back in 1996 - 1988. We would all go out for quiet cocktails after work at Cabana and of course it became a "party" when Jim showed up! I was saddened when our group broke up and all went in different directions (some of us moved out of state and some passed away) and I lost track of Jim (long before FB came on the scene). My deepest and sincere sympathy and prayers to you and the rest of Jim's family and friends in his passing along. I would love to hear more of his life of the last 10 years if you are so inclined to share with me. Peace be with you all. Kathryn

I love you Jim and miss you so much. I'm truly lucky to have known you and worked alongside you. You taught me so much.... even when you teased me about non-existent typos on print materials. I'll never forget you and your wacky sense of humor.

Wishing peace and comfort to Edith and Jed.

Jim, you know I love you. I will always love you. Thank you for sharing your love, your gift, and your ironic love of life with me. You are the best friend I have ever had, and I miss your random 2am calls already.

I want you to know that I would have never made it where I am today without your support, thank you for being there and believing in me when times were tough - it mattered.

PS: - Jim, I promise I will "make it happen."
