Lori Barney Obituary

April 17, 1959 ~ Oct. 19, 2011
Our dearly loved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, and close devoted friend to many, unexpectedly passed away on October 19, 2011.
Lori Thompson Barney was born on April 17, 1959 to Marcia and Brent Thompson in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended Brighton High School and Brigham Young University and took great pleasure in learning new skills and perfecting them her entire life. Lori carried with her a bright, happy countenance that brought a smile to everyone she would meet. As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lori served in nearly every calling in the Young Woman's Organization, Relief Society, as well as in multiple humanitarian service opportunities. Lori was always willing, and wanting, to serve those around her with all of her heart and to her full, and seemingly endless, capacity. To her friends, Lori was loved for her genuine kindness, loving heart, charitable nature, and one they could truly call friend. To her family, Lori was everything.
Lori developed amazing talents and gifts throughout her life. She learned to become a pilot, a rancher, a cyclist, a marathoner, a pianist, a hunter, a skier, a chef, a poet, an entertainer, a business woman, and a philanthropist.
Lori truly exemplified a life well lived. She had a true testimony and understanding of the Savior Jesus Christ and tried to follow His example. By so doing, she has become a great influence to all those who knew her, leaving an enduring legacy. Generous to the end, Lori was able to save many lives with her final donation.
Survived by her husband, Gary A. Barney of Lander, WY, her parents Brent and Marcia Thompson, Grandmother Madeline Thompson, her children David A. (Sara) Francis, Jr. grandson Bela, Nicholas T. Francis, Samuel H. Francis, Travis (Amy) Barney, Cami (Shane) Petty, Brooke Barney (Weston T. Graham). Sisters, Kaye (Harold) Dunn, Shari Thompson Knudson, and her brother Brent (Angee) Thompson, Jr. Also survived by her beloved grandchildren, whom she knowingly spoiled, Bela, Nathan, Ashton, Olivia, Devlin as well as many nieces and nephews who her adored her greatly.
A Memorial will be held on Saturday, October 22, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel in Lander, WY (653 Cascade Street, Lander, WY. Services provided by McDougal Funeral Home in Salt Lake City and Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander, WY.

Dear Brent and Marcia and family,
I was saddenedto hear of Lori's passing. She was always one of our favorites and was loved by Sally, our girls and me. I know you well enough to know that even though you are sad, you have a strong faith and will eventually come to the peace that is promised. It is sometimes hard to remember that this is not our final resting place. I send our love and our sympathy to all of you. We are grateful for your friendship over so many years. Warmest regards,
Brent Black and family

Lori was one of my young women leaders when she lived in SLC and a very close friend to my mom. I loved to babysit for her and talk to her. She truly was a great person and will be missed! Love, Courtney Smith Williams

We were shocked and saddened to learn of Lori's passing at such an early age. It was enlightening to read about her many interests and accomplishments in this life. She was sweet as a teenager at Brighton High School when we first met her. She became absolutely beautiful as an adult. We are so glad for her positive influence, especially as a mother and grandmother. To be sure, her grandmother, Fern Tanner, is greeting her warmly. Heartfelt sympathy to Brent, Marsha, Kaye, Shari and "B". Much love, The Duke and Joan Reid Family
