LORNA ROGERS Obituary

Lorna C. Rogers 1923 ~ 2010 Lorna Crane Rogers died peacefully May 18, 2010 in Salt lake City. She was born April 28, 1923 at the family home in Draper. Her parents were Samuel N. and Verda Gray Crane. She was a farm girl who was taught by her parents the importance of hard work and sacrifice. She graduated from Jordan High School - she always loved her "dear old Jordan High." She graduated from BYU with a degree in Business in 1946. She married Ivard R. Rogers November 7, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they enjoyed raising their children and making their house a home. Lorna worked as a secretary for many years, eventually retiring from KSL Channel five in 1985. At this time, Ivard became ill. She lovingly cared for him for three 1/2 years. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served where asked, including teaching in Primary, visiting teaching, and enjoyed many years of service in the name extraction program. She was an officer in the Heber C. Kimball Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Lorna enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and sisters. Her favorite things were going to the temple, traveling, BYU sports, Jazz games, and pulling weeds-she could never walk by a weed without reaching down and taking it out. Two of her wishes in life were to stay in her home of 56 years and avoid going to a rest home. She accomplished both. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was kind, compassionate, generous, and accepting. She had a remarkable memory. She found delight and humor in simple things. Living family members include: her son Robert and daughter-in-law Marcia, with their children Cassandra (Matt Henry), Krystal, Kyle (Cheryl), and Kurt (Lizzy); her daughter, Janet; son Gary and daughter-in-law Becky, with their children Elizabeth and Stuart; two great-granddaughters Ella and Callynn; and special family friend Brenda Eggett. Her siblings include: Harold (Louise) Crane, Willa (Jim) Nelson, Clyde (Ora) Crane, Betty (Myron) Kidner, Ron (Loreen) Crane, Carolee (Douglas) Jenkins. Lorna was preceded in death by her husband and granddaughter Corinne. The family wishes to thank the RICU unit of the Intermountain Medical Center who provided loving care during Lorna's final days. Contributions may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Perpetual Education Fund, 50 East North Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84150. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the Kimball Ward building, 2280 South 300 East, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Garden. Online condolences may be made at www.larkincares.com

I have good memories growing up with Uncle Ivard, Aunt Lorna and my cousins Robert, Janet and Gary. I’m so happy Aunt Lorna was able to come to the Rogers Reunion last summer. She has always supported the Rogers family attending our weddings and missionary farewells. We will remember her with love forever.

Bob: I am saddened for you and your family to read of your mom's passing. Your friends here at work extend our sympathy as you remember your mother and all she meant to you. May these fond memories buoy you up during this time of grieving and until that time when you are once again reunited.

Robert, Janet, and Gary, I was so sad when my mom called and told me the news. It is so hard to believe. My mom enjoyed having her as a visiting teacher. It is hard when the people you have known your whole life start passing aways. Looks like there are only 2 families left in the neighborhood now! I am sad for your loss. But I know she is happy to be with your father now.
