I knew ricardo when he was a tram operator at snowbird. my boyfriend was also a tram operator so I got to know ricardo a little bit better than from just seeing him on the tram. He was an amazing guy. We both loved to telemark and I can remember being at a backcountry rescue fundraiser and discussing why they should auction off a porsche. we decided that it would be very cool to drive up the canyons as well as being fast to get from one spot to another to ski. that was also when Top Gun was released and he said that if that movie had been around when he was the right age, he would signed up in a heartbeat. I hadn't seen him to talk to him since he left snowbird but I did see him about 6 years ago as I was riding up the wasatch crest trail and he was riding down. I was relieved to be able hop out of the way and rest when I saw a rider on their way down the trail and as he went flying by and said hello I realized that it was ricardo. I don't know if he knew who it was but I always wonder what had happened to him and thought to myself, he's still around salt lake. From reading the article that was in the tribune, it certainly sounds like he accomplished alot and stayed just the same as he was, an amazing guy with such a great sense of humor and zest for life. He was just fun to be around.
I am so sorry for your loss and hope that the memories that you have of him will give you comfort and peace.

Caroline, We are very grateful to hear your voice in this lovely tribute to a man we have loved through the years - even though there were great gaps of time in between meeting up with him. We skied and listened to music with Ricardo during his Denver days-24 years ago. We bumped into him at Alta at various times through the years while on 'home' visits to see family. (Sam finally got an opportunity to break away from family and ski the b.c. with Ricardo at the end of December, 2009). Each time we met up was a blast of positive energy. We will cherish always that Ricardo left us all memories too great to forget. His spirit and smile were sheer proof of his zest for life. We are deeply saddened by your loss. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy.

Sis, I always thought Ricard brought out the best in you. I loved the sense of humor you two shared. And I was so thankful that both Kroko sisters had found such wonderful partners. Love, Sis

Caroline, I didn't know you but knew Ricardo well from our discussions of geology, particularly Carlin-type deposits where we had a lot of overlap. I just saw him in Vancouver a scant two weeks ago. I am sorry for your loss.

Paula and I did not know Ricardo very well until his 50th b-day party and group ride out the Kokapelli trail at Dewey Brige. Thirty plus of his very good friends rode that day and we acted as guides. Ricardo's energy, friends and funny comments made the ride one of the most memorable rides P and I have done.
We also got to spend 7 solid days touring with him last Feb 2008. Again his love of the backcountry, his energy, his funny stories and the fact that he went to bed at a reasonable time were insprirational to us. We got to see the whole man and are happy for that. On the next to the last day he even let me break trail chomping at the bit on my heals,"whispering Eddie save your energy I can break now." He was being kind to an older man!!!
Paula and Eddie will miss you and let your memories live on forever.

Ricardo was only here a few times, in Crooked Creek, yet he became family. He had an ever present smile and was always happy. He was easy-going, yet had a drive and passion for life that was unmatched.

I feel like I knew Ricardo well, though, in fact, we only shared brief moments of time over the years both professionally and on the ski hill at Whistler. He was easy to know and to like. His energy was without equal. I feel fortunate to have know him for even those brief moments. The obituary was written with great love and caring so I know how much his wife, family, and friends meant to him. I will miss him greatly as our staff will here at Alaska Earth Sciences.

I wasn't fortunate enough to know Ricardo personally, but I knew about him through Caroline, my friend and co-worker. I felt like I knew Ricardo just from the vivid stories Caroline would tell. I admired their love and devotion for one another and his zest for life. Even still, he is an inspiration to all to live life to the fullest and to touch people's lives along the way. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Ricardo Presnell was a person of rock-solid ethics, personal commitment to excellence in everything he did, and an immense love of his family and friends - of life. His exemplary conduct and character moved us each, and he is missed as a friend, colleague, and mentor.

I first met Ricardo on top of Toledo Chute in May 1995. We were both out solo, waiting for the corn to soften. After chatting and chuckling for a while we took the long run to our cars hooting at each other in the early morning solitude of the Wasatch. Over the last 15 years I've run into Ricardo again and again on skis, bikes and foot. We found out that we had mutual friends and a similar lust for recreation. Last Saturday I ran into Ricardo in the Collin’s line and abandoned my group for a chance to ride up the lift with him. We told stories and laughed out loud like little kids celebrating on a snow day. At the end of the lift ride, we planned for an upcoming dawn patrol - he was a catalyst. The shock of his passing has paused me many times since last Wednesday yet I know that as time moves along, his radiance will eclipse the sadness. My deepest condolences to his family and friends – his light has shined on many.

Dear Caroline,
Francis and I have not seen you and Ricardo for many years, but our hearts were heavy when we heard of your loss. He was indeed a lively and unforgettable personality. He once laughed with me while mimicking a conversation between horsepeople;"You fed your horse, I fed my horse! You brushed your horse and I brushed my horse"! It was funny as I am a horse person and I know you are too.
Our thoughts are with you and Ricardo. Know you are both well loved.
