Tomas Hollenbach Obituary

Oct. 7, 2001 ~ Nov. 19, 2011
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not PERISH but have EVERLASTING LIFE." John 3:16
Tomas Gregory Hollenbach, 10 years old, Draper, Utah, graduated to eternal life on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:45 a.m. Tomas was diagnosed with a Brain Stem Glioma (DIPG) in March of 2010. Tomas was surrounded by his entire family at his home when he took his final breath. Tomas was born on October 7, 2001 in Sandy, Utah to his proud parents; Greg and Dulce. He was the oldest of three sons, including Victor and Mateo. He was the first grandchild to his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Terri Williams and fourth grandchild to his maternal grandparents, Tomas Leopoldo and Magdalena Galicia; a cousin to Antonio, Maximiliano, and Franco Montero, Colby Hollenbach, and Nicholas Whitney; a nephew to six aunts and three uncles; and great grandson to William and Marjorie Stevens. Tomas' life was defined by his love and obedience for his Lord, Jesus Christ. Before Tomas became ill, he was determined to share that love for Jesus to the entire world. He would want you to know that "JESUS lOVES EVERYONE, EVEN YOU." Tomas loved going to school and playing soccer. Tomas lived for helping others and had an immeasurable compassion for anyone around him. His life was not cut short, but he completed it in God's perfect timing. We would like to thank everyone for going above and beyond to comfort and show such love to Tomas while he was here with us.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday, November 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, both will be held at Calvary Chapel, 460 W. Century Dr. (4350 S.) In celebrating Tomas' life, we suggest that blue, white, or purple is worn. The family would request that all Memorial Donations be given to Operation Christmas Child, a project which helps poor children around the world by giving them shoe boxes filled with Christmas gifts which was one of Tomas' favorite ways to help others. You were a bright shining reflection of Jesus to everyone. I really enjoyed knowing your parents, Greg and Dulce for a brief time in Mexico and SLC, they attracted others to them for the gospel of Jesus and so did you. Now as King David told us, we cannot bring them back but by following in Jesus' example and salvation we may at the end of our days go to them. 2Sam11:22 Thank you for sharing your pain and grief and love for Jesus with us all. May the Lord continue to comfort you with His strength and love.

I am sad that I never actually got the chance to know Tomas, but you didn't need to personally know him to know the kind of person he was. Truly amazing doesn't even begin to describe him. He will surely be missed, but through Jesus, we know it is only a short while until we see him again. I've come to realize that if we all give our hearts to Jesus as Tomas did, even though our bodies may be apart for a while, our hearts will always be together. Tomas, you've done an awesome, incredible job with what you were given, well done good and faithful servant. Many prayers to his family in this time of separation <3

I attended the service today, and all I can say is "Wow"! What an amazing young man. We hear it said of influential people "They were a giant among men." Tomas was a giant among men. Nevermind the fact that he was 10 years old. He influenced more people in his short life than most of us will in decades. It was an uplifting experience to be there today. God bless you all.

What an amazing boy! You will be missed.

It's only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth -- and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up -- that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had. - - Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

My dear Tomas: I will miss your smile, your "thumbs up", your joy in the midst of pain, and your heart to see people know and love Jesus. But we will see each other again and run through the streets of the Holy City together. I can't wait!

I feel overwhelmingly blessed and honored to have had the pleasure to know Tomas. He was such a precious child of God who accomplished more in his 10 years of life than most of us ever will and praises be to God, Tomas is still living, just not on this earth. My heart breaks for those who are left here without him, Greg, Dulce, Victor and Mateo... We love you guys so much! We admire you all for your strength and love for the Lord. We are so grateful that you are a part of our lives and we would do anything for you. Thank you for inviting us into your home so we could get to know Tomas and have the joy there was in just being in his presence. God bless you, our prayers will always be with you. Our son too was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor when he was 8 years old. I know that you have had a very hard challenge. Little boys like Tomas will help us to remember that there is more than just what we have here. GOD has blessed us all with Tomas. He is truly an inspiration. May the great LORD bless you all.
