Joyce was a wise woman and dear friend. We worked together at Skyline High School, but we were more than just teaching comrades. She was special. Always she had a listening ear and would willingly share anything to help lighten the load and effectively teach. I remember her unmatched china settings; her skill with refinishing beautiful furniture and her ability to make everyone feel special. I miss this amazing woman.

I will always remember the English courses with Ms. Stonehocker in the early 1980's at Cyprus. We mastered the art of diagramming sentences…and hopefully avoided dangling participles! She was a great teacher and will be missed.

Mrs Stonehocker inspired generations of students. She helped me see my potential even though I was terrified of writing. She is an example to every teacher of the kind of legacy they should leave. As her family, you will miss her, but she will never be forgotten. Cyprus HIgh class of '82

I was so sorry to hear about Joyce's passing. She was my cooperating teacher when I student taught at Cyprus High School. I appreciated her wit and humor; mostly, I admired her love of teaching. She influenced countless students. Joyce has left a beautiful legacy.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Ms. Stonehocker.
She was a gifted teacher. It was obvious that she loved the written word and wanted to pass that love on to the young people in her charge. Thank you for instilling in me that love. I have and always will think of you anytime the book The Scarlet Letter comes up in conversation. Rest in peace.

I have thought of my favorite English teacher many times through the years as well. She challenged and inspired me in class and helped to foster a love of the Classics. I will forever be grateful for her influence in my life and will never forget so many of the things I learned from her. I'm saddened to hear of her passing. I was so saddened to hear of Ms. Stonehocker's passing. Even though it has been more than 30-years since I last saw her, Ms. Stonehocker's teaching and guidance is with me every day. As I think back about my education, she is clearly one of the teachers who helped shape me and I thank her for profusely for that education and mentoring. To the family, I am sorry for your loss and I hope that you find comfort in one another and those around you.

I am deeply grateful for the privilege of having had Ms. M for my Junior Honors English instructor at Cyprus High.
I carry a deep sense of gratitude for her amazing gifts to me ... Bless you Joyce for all you have done; and, thank you so very much. As you know, it is difficult to gather together a few words and attempt to have them represent feelings...

Miss McNeil was truly one of the best teachers I ever knew. She was demanding and we knew we had to take her class seriously or not take it at all. Yet she was kind, funny and showed great compassion to her students. I think about her often when I am called upon to write something. Yet at the time I really didn't like diagramming sentences. Yes, Miss McEnil you were right. Grammar is important and you drummed it into our reluctant heads. Thank you,

What an honor to have had Mrs.Stonehocker for my Senior Honors Eng. teacher at Cyprus High School. She taught me the love of reading and the importance of proper grammar. I also had the opportunity to work with her at GSD offices, even there, she was still Mrs. Stonehocker to me. We have lost one of the last true classy ladies.

Joyce,
I still cannot believe you are gone. I find myself still reaching for the phone for our daily conversations. I loved talking with you about books. After reading all the tributes from your former students, I am reminded of how grateful I am for your guidance and inspiration in my own teaching. Just as you were a wonderful teacher, you were a wonderful friend. We laughed together and cried together. We shared some great adventures. You were always there for me as you were for all your friends. There are so many qualities I admired about you: your intelligence, spirituality, creativity, and your intense devotion to your family. Mostly I admired your tremendous determination, grace, and courage through these last "difficult" months. I will always cherish our friendship and believe I will continue to feel your indomitable spirit. I love you Joyce. Love, Karen

Joyce helped to shape my life as a mentor, friend and supportive colleague. She generously shared both her insightful classroom ideas as well as her lovely home for warm social gatherings. I cherish her uniqueness, her class and the memories I have of a gracious and brilliant woman.

I think of Miss Stonehocker often! Every time a computer security question asks for my favorite teacher I wonder what has become of her. I felt sadness when I learned of her passing and guilt that I never expressed my gratitude. English was much easier than any other subject in college thanks to one fine teacher at Cyprus High. I am sure Heavenly Father is glad to have her home as her skills are honed and ready to work on. Thank you Miss Stonehocker! Job well done!

Joyce was one of the very finest people I have ever known. I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing. I was one of her students but have not seen her since my graduation in 1972. She was able to form me into a much better person than I thought I could be and was as good of a friend as a teacher. She will be missed by all those who truly knew her and truly welcomed into the Heavenly Kingdom of God. I will say many prayers for her. Peace be with you Joyce.

Joyce was lovely, elegant, outrageous, funny, fun, and an amazing entertainer. Love her! She even had her math friends and admitted that "numbers are special."

Teachers go about doing their jobs never knowing the full impact they have on their student's lives. And we, as students, don't really know our teachers very well. We see them as "teachers" and not as individuals with lives of their own. I can say that about Joyce. However, she will always be fondly remembered as "Ms. McNeil " to my husband, Steve, and I, as he and I first met in her Creative Writing class in '73 at Cyprus High School. She particularly loved the depth of my husband's creative writing, but mine? Well, it was "shallow". We have laughed about it for years. Her lessons were very interesting and creative. I remember her inspiring us to think about poetry on a different level. My husband and I send our condolences to her family and friends. (Spelling and Grammar checked in advance)
