Spencer Hatch Obituary

Spencer Fearnley Hatch
February 5, 1924 ~ September 26, 2014
Spencer Fearnley Hatch, age 90, husband, father, attorney and faithful servant of the Lord passed away in the early morning hours of September 26, 2014 with his sweetheart at his side.
He was born February 5, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Spencer Hatch and Edith Fearnley. He attended Kindergarten in Salt Lake City, Grade School in Centerville, Junior High School in Bountiful and Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah.
When a senior in High School the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Two months after graduation Spencer joined the Navy Air Corps, was commissioned an Ensign and a Naval Aviator in September 1943 and in 1945 saw aerial combat in the Pacific at the Philippine Islands, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He shot down 3 enemy planes and put one of his own fighter planes at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean with engine failure and had another one seriously shot up from ground fire but was able to get his plane back to the aircraft carrier for a safe landing. He served as LDS group leader on the carrier and they had Sunday meetings and MIA on Tues. He was recommended for the Silver Star, was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals "for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in action against the enemy."
After the War, Spencer served a two and a half year mission for the LDS church in the Northern States Mission under Mission President Creed Haymond, serving as his first counselor for the last six months. After his mission he completed a BS in Business and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in Law at the University of Utah. He then attended BYU for one fun and interesting year. Spencer toured Europe and Asia for three months with his close friend, Dale Tingey, spending on month in the Holy Land. He toured Central and South American with his brother Dell Hatch visiting many archeological sites.
In 1963 Spencer moved to Southern California where he met and married his wife, April, in the Los Angeles Temple. Thirty years later he and April moved to Bountiful, Utah.
His church service includes Sunday School Teacher, Seminary Teacher, Elders Quorum President, Guide on Temple Square, Assistant to Richard L. Evans with Marion D. Hanks on Temple Square full time during four summers months. He has served as counselor in two Bishoprics, Stake high Council, High Priest Group Leader, Bishop and as Stake Patriarch for over 25 years. He and his wife have served as Temple Ordinance Workers and have been active for years in the Constitution Coalition in efforts to help save our Constitution, our borders, our sovereignty, and our freedom that are being critically challenges (unreported in the news media) by Satan's oath bound Secret Combinations as outlined in the Book of Mormon and especially in Ether chapter 8.
Spencer is survived by his wife April and 7 children, Marc, MILA, Paul, Tim, Shawn, Randy, Jimmy and their spouses.
Services will be held Friday October 3 2014 in the Lakeview Chapel 455 South 1200 East with a viewing from 10:30AM - 11:30AM and funeral service being held at 12 noon. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 790 south, 100 East, Bountiful, Utah.

April I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember coming to your home as several of my children received the patriarchal blessing. I was so impress with the amount of time he took with one of them talking with them and getting to know them a little bit. He was such a great man.
