Billie Devine Obituary

Billie Ann Smith Devine, 78, passed from this life surrounded by her loved ones on September 1, 2015.
Billie Ann was born to William F. Smith and Hazel Anna Sorenson Smith May 12, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from East High School in 1955.
Billie Ann is survived by her children Stacy Devine, Kristin (Richard) Hartt, and Erin (Shannon) White. She was preceded in death by her son Michael (Rita) Devine. She was blessed with twenty-two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Marian Smith, Mary Carol (Darrell) Johnson, and James (Eve) Smith.
Billie Ann moved with her family to Reno, Nevada. There her life was blessed by faithful friendships that brought her great happiness and buoyed her up in times of trial. Her marriage to David Devine ended in divorce.
Billie Ann returned to Utah after raising her children. Living in Salt Lake reunited her with her family and many treasured childhood friends. She was fortunate to purchase her beloved childhood home on 1177 East South Temple and relished in renovating it. There she presided over many joyful family celebrations.
Billie Ann delighted in every wedding, newly arrived baby, missionary letter, and other family milestones. She manifested her love in wedding celebrations, handmade doll clothes, and handwritten notes on bee stationery.
Affectionately known by her great-grandchildren as "Grandma Chocolate," Billie Ann was a force in uniting her family through faithfulness in the gospel and her many talents. She made great sacrifices to make temple worship a priority in her life and participated meaningfully in the wards she attended. Billie Ann took pleasure in serving others through her meticulous planning, creativity, and of course, delicious food.
A memorial service will be held on September 12, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. at the Olympus 5th Ward (3070 East Nila Way (4140 South) Salt Lake City, Utah 84124). Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation prior to the service from 11:00-12:15.

I did not know
Billie until she moved into our wardd and I became her home teacher. I immediately fell in love with her sweet spirit and kind manner. Over the course of our visits, I learned she had grown up living close to me, been a friend to my older sister, Colleen, and that I had gone to school with her younger brother, Jim. I will always remenber her for the sweet spirit she radiated and for her kindness.
Our condolences go out to her many family members. Take heart that she is now in a better place with those whom she loves.

Billie Ann was a wonderful mentor for us (Carol and I) when we were young. She would laugh at us and with us and it was contagious. I will miss her graceful presence.

Stacy, Kristine, Erin, Rita and family, sorry to hear about your Mom. I have so many memories of all of you and your Mom. What a great lady! To this day I still make her peach pie and potatoe salad that she taught me how to make. Our families created lasting memories. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. I bet my Mom is so excited to see her! What a reunion she is having. May the Lord comfort each of you and may you feel of his love. Carol Bianucci Barlow

My sister Rita's mother-in-law Billie Ann Devine has passed on ahead of us. She is one of the nicest people I've ever met.

Billie Ann's amazing meals and stunning food presentation for family events will never be forgotten, nor her loving smile that went along with it. She will no doubt be put in charge of huge family gatherings on the "other side".

In the meanwhile, we'll miss her!

With Great Love,
Ken & Barbara Cromar family

Will miss Billie Ann. I grew up next door to her and her bother and sisters on South Temple and S Street. Last time I talked with her was several years ago in the Old East 27 Ward Building.
