Byron Lowe Obituary

Byron Reuben Lowe
1922 ~ 2016
Sandy, UT-Byron Reuben Lowe was born on April 28, 1922, in Okeman, Oklahoma, to Carrie Howard and Claude Lowe. From the onset, Byron was a dedicated hard-worker. During World War II he served in the U.S. Air Force, positioned as a navigator and bombardier, and participated in 50 combined missions over both Italy and Germany, for which he received numerous commendation. Upon his return, he graduated from the University of Utah as a chemical engineer and then went on to work for Standard Oil of Indiana for 40 years. At the time of his retirement, he had been managing the world's largest inland oil refinery. Byron was a dedicated family man. He married the love of his life, Thelma (Sally) Marie Vance, of Fairview, Utah, on February 3, 1944, they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, Byron and Sally had two children, and when Sally passed in 2004, they had been married for over 60 years. Byron also dedicated time towards callings within the LDS Church, faithfully fulfilling the various roles of bishop, high council, and mission president. He balanced all of this with enjoyable pastimes and passions, and when he wasn't spending time with his family, he was working in the yard, watching the birds, and during retirement, golfing nearly every day of the week at the Willow Creek Country Club (he was proud to be the oldest golfer on the course). Byron Lowe is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sally - whom we know he is most happy to be reunited with now. He is survived by his three brothers, Bill, Nathan, and Wayne Lowe, as well as his children Steve (Georgette) and Cindi (Kerry) Curtis, his eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Our family would like to express deep gratitude to Pita and Latu Fonua for the great friendship, care and compassion they shared with Byron in his last years.
