Mary Covin Obituary

COVIN
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His godly ones." Ps. 116:15

Mary Helen Montgomery Covin went to be with her Heavenly Father, Friday, April 26, 2013, at the age of 85. She was born May 20, 1927, in San Antonio, TX, to Helen Mae Gissi Montgomery and Alfred Collins (Fred) Montgomery and graduated from Alamo Heights High School. She married the one and only love of her life, Wilfred Merle "Bud" Covin, May 2, 1944. He preceded her in death June 28, 1997. She was employed in the food service industry at Trinity University in San Antonio and by the Blanco ISD. She was a member of Alamo Heights Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by parents: Fred and Helen Montgomery; sister: Virginia (Jenny) Montgomery; brother: Rex Montgomery; sons: Charles and David Gayle; granddaughter: Lesa Santellana; and great-grandsons: Jackson and William.
Mary is survived by brother: George Montgomery; sisters: Anne Hager (Howard), Carolyn Guthrie (Gus); sister-in-law, Jean Montgomery; children: Buddy (Carolyn), George (Linda), Gary (Theresa), John (Chere), Chris (Rita), Jeff (Claire) and Mary (Paul), 24 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who loved and cherished her dearly.
Mary's life was characterized by beautiful hands that served others unselfishly, a heart that loved and accepted others unconditionally and a rock solid faith that permeated every part of her life. Her special gift of "cooking" blessed so many lives. Mary's favorite verse was 1 Cor. 2:9: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him." Now, Mary's eyes are seeing, her ears are hearing and her mind understands all God prepared for her!
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013, from 6-8 pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX. It is still hard to imagine that Aunt Mary is not "just down the street..." My last visit in her home was when I took my mother to "lunch with Mary" What a feast! And that was just lunch!

My mother will miss all the phone calls. She called me just last night, during a storm, to tell me that when a big storm was approaching that Aunt Mary would call her and ask if she had a working flashlight and extra water set aside in case the power went out,but this storm, no call came...

I have so many, many memories of all the time spent, especially in Blanco , with her, Uncle Bud, and all my cousins. We would ride to the river in Blanco with my cousin Charles driving us in a Cadillac convertible, spend hours swinging from a rope into the river, and return to the house starved. Aunt Mary would be there stirring and chopping and cooking and again a feast made by loving hands would feed us all.

I'll miss you Aunt Mary but will see you again at Heaven's banquet table.

The best neighbor I've ever had for 19yrs. I will always remember your warm smile and your heart giving hugs. In going through 2 life changing journeys of my own, without my saying anything you knew when I needed your comforting words. Your caring heart always made me feel at peace. I still take a peak towards your home to see if your front door is open. I will always remember you as will my family who knew you were a big part of my life.

To the Covin Family:
The thing that I most remember about Mary was her smile. She was alway so good natured. I loved her from the moment we met. We had some good times at AHBC. Her focus was always on how she could help others. Mary's committment to family, friends and her church leaves a wonderful legacy. May the love and memories you shared with her help when you need it most. We are assured that one day we will all rejoice together and sing praises to the our Lord. His love and grace be with you. She will remain my memory as one of the most gracious ladies I've ever met. One can just tell what a wonderful mom she was by knowing her great family. You will be remembered in my prayers. God bless & keep you.

I met Mary through her son, George, and his wife, Linda, many years ago at Oak Ridge Baptist Church. I had the pleasure of dining on her many dishes, several which I got the recipes, and still use today. She was always gracious and kind to all around her. I treasure those memories of her. Prayers, blessings, and love to her family in her homegoing. Karen Webb

Rest in peace Aunt Mary :)

y wife,Lynn and I didn't know Mary well. We had only met her once, that I can recall, but I know a number of her children and their progeny; each one a testament to her kind heart and gentle way. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of a lady well loved, who always gave back more than she got. I know through God's promise that we'll get to know her better one day. Rest in Peace, dear lady. Randy and Lynn Brown

A memory I will keep of Mimi forever is of seeing her at my High School graduation. She didn't miss a single one of her grandchildren or great grandchildren's high school or college graduations. Afterwards I went up to hug her, and as usual she squeezed me tight. As I pulled away, she grabbed the side of my arm, and in that sweet sweet voice we all remember so well, she said "I just love you so much!" I could just hear, see, and feel the love flowing out of her. Mimi lived her life this way, loving everybody as boldly as she possibly good. I will miss her dearly.
