Donald Fischer Obituary

FISCHER
Donald L. Fischer, age 63, went into the arms of The Lord with his wife and son by his side, Tuesday, February 18, 2014. He was born on February 19, 1950 and was a lifelong resident of San Antonio, Texas. Don graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. He graduated from Texas A&M University, Class of 1972. Don was a former member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and President of the San Antonio A&M Club and the Area Rep for the Association of Former Students. Don faithfully served his country for 25 years in the U. S. Navy Reserve and was a sales representative for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals for 32 years and was respected by the medical community. Don loved The Lord, family and friends, was loved by all, and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin D. Fischer, Jr. and Margie Glaspie Fischer; Don is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathi Altwein Fischer; son, Barrett Fischer and wife, Jennifer; granddaughter, Braelynn Grace Fischer; mother Marie Fajkus; sister, Patricia Griste (Charles); brothers, Bob Fajkus (Lynda) and Larry Fajkus and a number of nieces, nephews, close family and friends. We gratefully acknowledge and thank the bone marrow unit and the oncology unit at the Main Methodist Hospital, 8th and 10th floor. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Unfortunately, due to the busy schedules we all place on our lives we never spend enough time with our truly dear friends. As a fellow tenor sax player in the Aggie Band, Don has always been a true friend to me. Elizabeth and I greatly enjoyed all the times we were together with Kathi and Don. We will miss him dearly. Wow, what a great man. He was loved by all on the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Methodist. The inpatient and outpatient nurses all wanted to take care of Don. We will miss you and Kathy at Methodist. I had the honor of being with him his last few days. May you now rest in God's heavenly arms. And Gig'em aggies up there. Save Jeff and I a front row seat at the Aggie football games. OXOXOXO

To the Fischer family: Don and his cohort Jim Lamm were both special to me -Robert E. Lee HS and then Texas A&M where they took me among others under their wings. I did not even know Don was sick, and wish someone would have told me. He is now gone to God's drill field and is standing with Jim, they both are standing next to Col Adams. As we find out, we all say "here" to the melodic tones of bugles in their honor.
