Elizabeth Shannon Obituary

SHANNON
Elizabeth Steves Shannon was born on July 9, 1945 and died on June 16, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. She was known as Liz to her many friends and family and Izzie to her wonderful grandchildren. She was a dependable and loyal friend, mother and grandmother, always ready to lend a hand, share conversation, a laugh, or a shoulder. All who were blessed to spend time with her will never forget her ability to light up a room, her warm generosity, and her quick and charming wit. People wanted to be around her because she made us all better. She was an accomplished and appreciated interior decorator, cook and hostess. She loved to road trip with her friends and sisters. There is nothing that warmed her heart more than a birthday card, to finish the daily word puzzles before her sisters so she could tease them with clues the rest of the day, to celebrate holidays with family, to play "hand and foot" with friends, to visit with her sons and daughter-in-law, and to spend time with her grandchildren. Throughout all, she inspired us by her devotion to her Catholic faith. We have lost an irreplaceable best friend. She loved us all so much. She was a descendent of two early Texas families; the Canary Islanders who were among the founders of San Antonio, and of the settlers of San Patricio County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Bell and Joan Cahill Steves. She is survived by her two beloved sons, Clyde Frederick Shannon, III and Samuel Bell Steves Shannon, and his wife Kristen Reser Shannon, and her grandchildren Hannah Corrigan Shannon and Graham Samuel Shannon; her sisters Joan Steves Devine, Bebe Steves Rosser and her husband Virgil, Martha Steves Baker and her husband Del, Julie Steves Powers and her husband Greg, Julio, and her many and much loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mrs Shannon was a wonderful person with a bubbly personality that shined on everyone and we will miss her dearly. God bless her and her family during this solemn time.

Dear Frederick and Sam and to all Liz"s sisters, Liz was one of my dearest friends and I feel a great loss. I will keep her in my heart forever and I will remember the many wonderful times we had together. She was with us many years over New Years at our South Texas ranch and many summer weekends at our ranch near Junction. We traveled together. She and I spent almost 3 weeks in Egypt together. John and I send our love to you, Bonnie Korbell

Elizabeth and I were childhood friends. My aunt, Louise Cozby, lived next door to the Steves on Gramercy. I remember being bitten by the family parrot; sleepiong over when someone was prowling around outside; and her wondeful dog having its first seizure at my house ( I lived on Elsmere), My mother, Louise Wilkinson Purvis, chaparoned Bebe, Linda Davis and a few other seniors to Port Aransas & I got to go.
I haven't seen Elizabeth in years, as I moved away from San Antonio in 1962 and only recently returned. I will always remember an ever smiling wonderful friend and the many adventures we had around the neighborhood.

How sad to lose someone so young and vibrant. I am sure she willbe greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Sincerely,
Susan Wilkinson Arnette Beavin
