Helene McCormick Obituary

Helene Huff McCormick, 86, went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2004. She was born May 29, 1918 in Castell, TX to Dr. Oscar Huff and Beulah Wilson Huff. She was a resident of San Antonio, TX since 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married in 1962, Wilfred McCormick and her sister, Ruth Huff. She is survived by her children, Swami Kripananda of South Fallsburg, NY and India, Robert McCormick of San Antonio; cousin, Agnes Hefner of Marble Falls, TX. She was a writer of over 100 short stories and nonfiction articles dealing largely with the Old West. Her other interests and occupations included being a staff writer for various newspapers in Texas, as well as an appreciation for art. She exhibited paintings for galleries in Oklahoma, New York City and Texas. She obtained various degrees of higher education from schools in Texas and Colorado. At one time she held jobs as diverse as being a part-time fashion model in New York, during her college years, a high school teacher, to working for the state of Texas in the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Austin. In 1940, she took up flying and received her private pilot's license in 1941. She was an original member of the Women's Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs) in World War II. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at Roy Akers Funeral Chapels, 515 N. Main Ave., from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A Graveside Service will be held at Fairview Memorial Park, Albuquerque, NM at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, June 22, 2004. Roy Akers Funeral Chapels.
