Lenda Vaughan Obituary
Lenda Leigh Hairston Vaughan passed away peacefully on June 14, 2013 at her home surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband Vernon R. Vaughan, their children Cynthia L. Vaughan and partner Kip King, Sharon V. Leslie and husband Will, and Vernon (Bubba) R. Vaughan, Jr. and wife Donna, and their grandchildren Whitney Kirby, Taylor and Blair Leslie, and Paxton and Payton Vaughan.
Lenda was born in Crockett, TX on February 28, 1940 to Willie Hairston and Maye Trimble Mason. She is survived by her brothers Cary Hairston and Lonnie (Bud) Hairston, her sister Pam Rhodes and their families. Lenda married Vernon on August 17, 1957, and she graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1958.
She loved to travel, ride her motorcycle, paint and draw, sew and worship at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, San Antonio and St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rockport. Known affectionately as "Gamma" to her family and friends, she conquered three types of cancer five times over 20 years. Donations may be made in Lenda's name to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, June 21 at 2:00 pm at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. For the full obituary, please visit www.MeadowLawn.net

Dear Vernon and family. Thank you for sharing Miss Lenda with us on our Rockport visits. We will miss her beyond measure. She always saw the good in everyone and everything. We are blessed by her friendship and the example she set on raising a wonderful family.

Lenda/Gamma will always be remembered as a bright and loving spirit. I considered her my Rockport "Mom"; her encouragements, kind words and support were always appreciated. I feel honored to have known such a precious Child of God. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. My love to you all.

I did not get to spend much time with Lenda, but WOW! what a special time it was to be around this amazing LADY! Dennis was extremely fond of her and had a close relationship with her and Vernon. I know she will be missed by her dear family, friends and anyone who was fortunate to have had any contact with her. Like someone said, she never met a stranger because she made everyone feel special. God must be short on Special Angels in Heaven, and that must be why He took this Special One home. Lenda, you will be missed dearly!

Dear Mr. Vaughn, Cyndy, Bubba, and Sherry. I didn't know your Wife and Mom that well but know she had to be as good as they come. She and your Dad raised some wonderful Children. You are her legacy. What a better way to honor someone's memory than by just knowing the goodness of their children. My prayers are with you and all of the Vaughn family.

You were always the shining star while here with us teaching us all the importance of being a good, and loving person. So many life lessons were learned just by being around you. Although you are no longer here on this earth with us, all I have to do is look up and be reminded that you will always be that shining star. I will miss you Gamma!

Lenda will be missed by her family of friends in Rockport. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel loved. She touched more hearts here than she will ever know. We will miss her - but her family will carry on her spirit. We are blessed to have been in her life.

Lenda was a wonderful lady. Growing up I felt like I was part of the family, living just across the street. She will be missed. May God Bless her and her family.
