Howard Peachey Obituary

PEACHEY
Howard L. Peachey of San Antonio entered into rest on July 12, 2010, at age 86. The son of Wallace and Arlene Peel Peachey and stepson of Fred H. Cassidy, Howard was born in Brockport, New York on May 12, 1924. During World War II he served for three years in the South Pacific, where, as a Tech Sergeant 5, he performed duties as a radio operator attached to a 90mm gun battalion. After the war he attended the Rochester Institute of Technology on the G.I. Bill; upon graduation, he located to New York City where he met and married the love of his life, Katy Fox. To them were born two children, Stephen and David. Howard began a 38-year stint with Fox Photo in 1954, a career which placed his family in New Orleans, Danville, California, and finally San Antonio, where he retired in 1992 as Vice President of the Dealer Division. He and Katy were passionate longtime members of the San Antonio Choral Society and University Presbyterian Church; they also were deeply committed to SAMMinistries, Habitat for Humanity and its Re-Store. Howard is survived by his son, Stephen Peachey of Lake Tahoe, Nevada; daughter-in-law Dorinda Peachey of San Antonio; cousins Russell Peachey and Joyce O'Connor; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 16, at University Presbyterian Church in San Antonio at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to University Presbyterian Church, 300 Bushnell 78212 in San Antonio.

Dear Peachey Family:

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved. There are never any right words to express how deeply sad I am for the pain your family is enduring at this difficult time.

Although I did not have the honor and pleasure of knowing him, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, I am sincerely thankful for his valiant service in defense of our rights and freedom.

His commitment to family, friends, our community, and to serving our great nation leaves a wonderful legacy. May the love and the wonderful memories you shared with him help you when you need it most. He will never be forgotten, and your family will be remembered in my prayers.

It was a blessing to have known such a great and gentle caring man. He had a love for taking pictures and made me a photo album from start to finish when they built my Habitat for Humanity home. His memory will always live in my heart.

Mr. P., you were a mentor and dear, dear friend. I will always treasure the time we spent working together in New Orleans & later in San Antonio.
You and Mrs. Peachey were like surrogate parents to Cheryl and I when we moved to N.O. in 1971.

I first became acquainted with Howard and Katy when we traveled through Scotland and Ireland. Sweet people! Howard was a shutter-bug like me and it was fun hanging out and shooting photos with him as we stopped at different sites. He saw and composed such beautiful images and I always liked sharing photos and memories with him at later get-togethers. He understood what it meant to be patient to get the right shot. What a true friend. I will miss you, Howard.
