1918-2013
Arlington-Lucile Bolf Hegar, 95, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, passed away on October 30, 2013 at 1:30 a.m.
Services-Following cremation at Wade Funeral Home, Arlington, interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Austin, at noon on 11/24. Celebration of Life service at Sheppard King Lutheran, San Antonio, on 11/23 at 1:00.
Life-Lucille Bolf was born July 28, 1918 in Floresville, Texas. Her parents, Frank and Ellie Neubauer Bolf and maternal grandparents, Paul and Ulrika Beck Neubauer were German and Czech settlers in Wilson County. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Floresville and educated at Floresville High, The University of Texas, and Worden School of Social Work at Our Lady of the Lake University. She married Capt. Joseph A. Hegar of Temple in 1945 and had one daughter, Rebecca. Joseph retired from the U.S. Army in 1968 after the family spent tours of duty in Georgia, Japan, New Jersey, Virginia, Germany, and San Antonio, where the couple lived from 1965 to 2006.
Lucille spent much of her life serving the communities of Central and South Texas in roles including: teacher, school lunch supervisor, rural recreation organizer, Girl Scout professional, child welfare social worker, and Red Cross staffer and volunteer. She worked for the Red Cross in the San Francisco earthquake of 1989, a major Puerto Rican hurricane, and many Texas hurricanes. She served several years on the Board of Directors of Lutheran Social Services of the South, as well as holding congregational church offices.
Lucille also was known for her bread, jams, quilts, parties, hospitality, laughter, and travels. She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Arlington (2006-2013), Sheppard King Lutheran in San Antonio (1964-2006), the SPJST, and UT Texas Exes.
Memorials-In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Joseph, Lucille and Rebecca Hegar Scholarship Fund at the University of Texas at Arlington School of Social Work (Box 19129, UTA, Arlington, TX 76019-0129) or to Lutheran Social Services of the South (LSSS Agency Advancement, P. O. Box 140767, Austin, TX 78714-0767).
Family-Lucille was preceded in death by Joseph, her husband of 62 years, and by her brothers, Richard Frank Bolf and Frank Rudolph Bolf of Wilson County, and five sisters- and brothers-in-law. She is survived by daughter Dr. Rebecca Hegar, beloved granddaughter Anna Natasha, and new great-grandchild Emmy Nichole of Arlington, as well as by a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
