Randy was like a brother to me growing up, as he was my brother's best frien..and my best friend's brother! What a kind and compassionate person he was. I am so sorry for the loss and the pain his family is experiencing..I remain in prayer..and I know he is smiling down on the tremendous family and friends he has here on earth, and enjoying his well deserved new home..

To Randy's family...no words can ever ease the pain of your loss. I am profoundly sorry for your loss and wish I could bestow comfort upon you with my words. I always admired Randy for his "Never Quit" attitude. I pray the LORD comfort you during this time and the time to come. I pray those empty moments filled with the realization of Randy's passing are quickly filled by the love he left in your hearts. I pray the LORD grant you His Peace, His Shalom, that surpasses ALL understanding...and I pray His promise of reuniting with Randy will be something you can hold on to. God Bless You and God Bless and keep Randy.

I remember coming to Thunderbird Elementary back in 1969 from Alamo heights area. Randy was the FIRST one to say "Hi" and be my friend. He introduced me to others and made me feel welcome. :o)What a great guy. Brings tears as I type. My prayers go out to all his family and friends. He will be missed by all.

Extending the deepest sympathy to the Matye Family. I remember many afternoons sitting on the curb with the neighborhood girls, watching Tom and Randy "Shoot hoops". I've so many wonderful memories of songs and conversations we shared.

I am sure that my Brother Randy can see all of these fantastic and heart felt messages. Rick Stogsdill-so many great times with your family. We still talk about the make-shift basketball court all the time! Our two families spent many wonderful moments together and I truly appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and memories!

This post is to correct an earlier mistake on my sympathy post. Randy played with older brother Robby Matye (not Richard) at Holmes. My apologies, and continued condolence to the family.

My deepest sympathy to the entire Matye bunch during this time of grief. What a cool cat Randy was to all of us! He taught me the correct amount & proper way to add elastic to baseball socks, the hipster bang comb over the eyebrows & proved it was cool to don all those & have a National Honor Society trophy. What a wonderful combination of humor, atleticism, & charm. Throughout our lives certain things link us with certain groups. Few things compared to a weekend at the Mayte's which included watching the Midnight Special, wearing my Jets uniform for 12 hours straight, & losing miserably to Randy in a game of H-O-R-S-E on the make-shift court on the side of the house. All wonderful memories- every last one of them! May the Lord comfort you this day & always. I'm so very grateful for the opportunity to express my sorrow during this time of uncertainty. Thoughts of Randy bring a smile among the tears... God bless.

Prayers to Randy Matye's family. This is shocking news to me. He was a pretty good basketball and baseball player for the Holmes Huskies, with his older brother, Richard, during his high school days. His late dad, Dick Matye, and I were pretty good acquinstances when I was at St. Mary's University. In fact, Randy was an All-City outfielder in baseball his senior year at Holmes.
