Roy Bernard Peters November 22, 1923 - May 1, 2016 Chula Vista Roy Bernard Peters believed in faith, family and country and lived his life by a humble motto: Do the common task uncommonly well.The lifelong Chula Vista resident died May 1 at home. He was 92.Born to Roy and Rose Peters, he was the first boy baptized at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church - and spent his life dedicated to the parish - altar boy, Scoutmaster, Holy Name Society officer, Eucharistic minister, and Knights of Columbus.After attending Chula Vista grade schools, he graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1941and attended San Diego State,where he met Margaret Mary Arend, his future wife. They were married May 19, 1943.A staff sergeant, he served in the Marines 3rd Division during World War II at Guadalcanal and Guam, and in the 1st Division during the Korean War, at the Inchon landing and the Battle of the Chosin Resevoir.He then worked for the Postal Service, Rohr Aircraft, and San Diego County, where he was an engineering technician.He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 72 years; six children, John (Valerie), Juliann, Matthew (Terry), Nicholas (Debbie), Gretchen (Manuel), and Jerome (Edith); 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his four sisters, Virginia, Margaret, Anne and Barbara.Rosary will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church on Monday, May 9th at 7p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated May 10 at 11a.m. at St. Rose, followed by burial at Fort Rosecrans.
