Shirlyn Daddario Obituary

Shirlyn Potter Daddario May 18, 1948 - February 1, 2017 San Diego Shirlyn Potter Daddario passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, after a heroic battle with breast cancer. Shirlyn was a San Diego native, graduated from Crawford High School, attended San Diego State University, and received her JD from California Western School of Law. Shirlyn was tireless, refusing to let anything stop her. She completed her undergraduate and law degrees while a single mother to her three girls, somehow managing to attend their swim meets and run marathons too. She valued education and encouraged her daughters to excel in all of their endeavors, and was immensely proud of them for all of their accomplishments. She will always be remembered as the consummate hostess. Her home was always the gathering place for friends and family, be it pool parties in the summer or Christmas dinner for any and all who would otherwise spend the holiday alone. Shirlyn loved her family and friends, cooking, gardening, traveling, the family cabin, her Jeep, the law, opera, and above all, her cherished grandchildren. "Granny" was never happier than when she was being embarrassingly silly with her adoring grandkids. She leaves behind a wide circle of friends and colleagues, including her Geocon family, who were all a tremendous support to her during her illness.Shirlyn is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Dominique Tharp (Jeep) of Alpine, Sunshine Axlund (Eric) of Erie, CO, and Sarah Dorsey (Dan) of Ft. Collins, CO, her three sisters, Terry Cameron, Carolyn Sharpe and Linda Anderson, all of San Diego, as well as her four beloved grandchildren, Haleigh, Dane, Bridger and Cole.Shirlyn truly lived life to the fullest and found joy in the everyday. Her positivity and faith remained steadfast, even in the midst of her most difficult days. She was a mother to everyone, and we lost her far too soon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Colorado Cancer Center to support the research of Shirlyn's oncologist, Dr. Peter Kabos. Please send your gift to: University of Colorado Foundation, PO Box 17126, Denver, CO 80217. Please note Shirlyn Daddario and fund 0222776 in the memo field, payable to CU Foundation. All are welcome to a Funeral Mass at Saint John the Evangelist Church in Encinitas at 12:30 pm on April 1, with a Celebration of Life immediately following.

I worked with Shirlyn on a variety of legal matters. She was exceptional at drilling down through the layers of possibility to identify the most practical way to achieve the goal she had. She was wonderfully frank and direct. Her loyalty to those on her team and in her family was ever evident. She practiced law in her own distinctive and effective style. She made a huge virtue out of being pragmatic and practical. You could learn from her just by sitting and watching. I'm sorry she won't ever call again to analyze a matter.

I'm one of Shirlyn's classmates, Crawford Class of 1966. I was fortunate to catch up with your mom on several occasions right after she graduated from law school. I was involved with a case in San Diego and would run into your mom at the downtown courthouse. She was beautiful, smart and extremely nice...a perfect combo! I just heard today of her passing, to say I'm saddened is an understatement. May your mom rest in peace and may her family take comfort in the wonderful memories she left you.

Sincerely,
Rose Marie Royster
