Deane Hawley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 8, 2003.
HAWLEY, DEANE Dec. 18, 1937 to Dec. 25, 2002 Deane was born William Deane Hawley in Staten Island, New York and migrated west to California at age 3. Growing up in the Los Angeles area, he developed a love of music and singing. While at USC in 1960, he recorded "Look for a Star" which soared to the top of many charts. He also enjoyed a long career with Syntex Pharmaceuticals who financed his continuing education. He obtained a Masters in Human Behavior and integrated his knowledge of the human potential into his song and lyrics. His musical projects cater to every age group from children to the seniors. His latest CD, sung by his friend Frankie Laine, epitomized his view on how he wished to live his later years, aptly called "It Ain ' t Over ' Til It ' s Over". Deane died Christmas morning in the loving embrace of his family. This special man had a goodness of nature that was apparent to all who knew him. He is survived by wife Paula; sons Brian and Geoff; daughters Melissa and Leslie, granddaughter Nina; sister Stella and countless treasured friends.

Queen of the Angels was a fantastic song and got considerable radio play in New England in 1962. Deane’s vocal range was truly amazing.

Deane was a very nice person who loved his wife, Paula, his family and enjoyed being around his friends so much.

I met Deane I the early 1970's. Years later, my friend Paula, Deane's wife, told me they had gotten married.

In mid-2001, I lost touch with Paula right after my husband & I had a few deaths in our family.

I missed Paula and only found out Deane had passed away a few days ago.

If you read this, Paula, please know you're in my thoughts and prayers!

Love & Light,
Susan Leitch-Hassard
