Gerald Duffy Heveron November 8, 1922 - September 26, 2016 San Diego Born in 1922 in Buffalo, New York to Charles E. and Lorinda D. Heveron, Jerry Heveron passed away peacefully on September 26th. He was raised in Rochester, NY, and following graduation from Aquinas Institute in 1940, became a toolmaker at Stromberg Carlson until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1943. Jerry proudly served with the 299th Combat Engineers at the time of the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944 and was honorably discharged in December 1945. He graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in Engineering in 1952.Upon returning from The Big War, Jerry married the love of his life, Jane Gaffney, on April 8, 1947. Their 64-year marriage included their two children, Robert (Margaret) and Eileen (Hank Beck), as well as two grandchildren David (Alyson) and Theresa (Steven Granados) and one great-grandchild, Sawyer. The family moved to San Diego in 1959 where Jerry had a long career with General Atomic. In his retirement, he volunteered for 25 years at the San Diego Air and Space Museum, as well as many years with the San Diego Library and Sharp Hospital, among other activities. Jerry enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends, including trips to Africa, the Holy Land, Europe, Australia, Canada, the Panama Canal and many cruises. In his later years, he enjoyed the company of his dear friend Barbara Jones. In addition to the family members above, Jerry is survived by his sister Mary Elizabeth O'Hara of Rochester, New York, and many nieces and nephews and their children. He is also survived by his sister- and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Victor Yawman of York, PA and Jim and Shirley Gaffney of Schenectady, NY and their families.A funeral mass will be held at The Church of the Nativity, Rancho Santa Fe, September 30, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name can be made to the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
