Donald Hickethier Obituary

Hickethier, Donald 03/20/1933 ~ 07/19/2014 OCEANSIDE -- Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather. Don was born in Panama to Henry H. Hickethier and Ruth Hickethier (nee Goucher.) Don graduated from Grossmont High School in 1949 and from San Diego State University in 1954, where he met Mary M. Quinones. They married in 1954 and had five children. Don went to work for First National Bank of California, transferring to the Oceanside branch in 1960 and moving his family to Carlsbad where he worked first as a loan officer, and later, as Branch Manager. In the 1970s, he went to work for South Coast Asphalt (later Hanson's Aggregates), as its CFO and, later, its Regulatory Affairs Manager. Don retired at the age of 76 as a consultant for Escondido Sand and Gravel. Don was predeceased by his second wife, Clara Joann Hickethier, and son, Martin Hickethier. He is survived by his former wife, Mary Hickethier, his daughters Sharon (Terry) Henry and Betsy Allen, and his sons Don Hickethier and Fred Hickethier, stepson Phil Fuehr, stepdaughter Pam Fuehr, as well as eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Don's family will be holding a Celebration of Life to remember their Dad and Grandfather. We hope all his friends will share their favorite stories of Don, and join in tipping a final toast to him on Sunday, August 3, 2014, from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm at the Woman's Club of Carlsbad at 3320 Monroe Street, Carlsbad 92008. If possible, please RSVP at 760-716-8583. The family would like to thank Best of Care and the wonderful caregivers who made his continued living at home possible and provided him with great quality of life. Thank you also to the awesome care received from Mission Hospice. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the Women's Resource Center of Oceanside (http://www.wrcsd.org/ donate/.)

Dear Sharon, Betsy, Don, and Fred,
I'm so sorry guys. I will always remember how mellow he was and how he was always smiling. He helped us realize how nice a dad could be, and was one of our role models for us as we became parents. I pray you will find peace amidst your grief.
Love,
Debby
