John Lockhart Obituary

John Van Gundia Lockhart June 10, 1934 - April 9, 1916 EL CAJON CAPT John V. Lockhart, 81, is survived by 2 daughters: Kathryn L. Dreyer (George) and Sarah L. Bonnaure (Patrick) and 4 grandchildren: Eva Dreyer, Colton, Reece and Chloe Bonnaure. Born in Wooster, OH to RADM Robert G. Lockhart and Ina Kathryn V. Lockhart. This military family lived in many US states and abroad in Japan, the Philippines, China and Denmark. This led to a love of history and world affairs. In 1951, John graduated high school from St. George's in Rhode Island and Yale University in 1955. His interests and leadership skills led to a successful military career. As a Naval officer, he was a leader in the cockpit and on the ground. John was a Vietnam War Veteran and earned many medals commemorating his bravery. After retiring from the Navy in 1981, he became an engineer at General Dynamics. He furthered his education and got his MBA from the University of Southern Illinois. For fun John loved swimming, football, reading, going out to dinner and restoring antique furniture. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife Frances C. Lockhart, mother to his 2 girls, due to illness in 1996 and Donna G. Lockhart, his second wife, due to illness in 2014. John was very loved. Services will be held at All Saints' Episcopal Church at 10am, May 17th at 625 Pennsylvania Ave. in San Diego followed with Military Honors at Miramar National Cemetery at 1430, 5795 Nobel Dr. in San Diego.

It was a pleasure working with John at General Dynamics. He worked with me in the missile guidance design & test areas. He was a sincere and "no nonsense" person. My sincere condolences to his family.

My wife, Leona, also sends her condolences -- we visited with John and Donna a few times before Donna's passing.
