Rosemary Redditt Obituary

Rosemary Redditt August 23, 1931 - June 29, 2016 Spring Valley Rosemary, born in Los Angeles and raised in Dallas, TX, graduated from Merici High School and Southern Methodist University. A San Diego resident since 1959, she taught Phys Ed for 30 years mostly at Grossmont HS. She is remembered as professional, on the ball, proficient and an excellent coach. A highlight of her career was accompanying a Community Girls Track and Field Team to Russia. She also taught First Aid and CPR for the Red Cross and Lifeguarded at Gillespie Field. Her love of physical activity, the outdoors and animals led her to becoming a Volunteer Lieutenant Commander with the SD Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue K9 Unit. A majority of her 28 years there included work with her beloved Dobermans, Katie and Berry. She volunteered innumerable hours to speaking engagements, public relations, mission searches and special details. She received Law Enforcement Certificates for Life Saving, was acknowledged by the SD Board of Supervisors for her work and nationally recognized for her outstanding work with Berry. She and Berry also volunteered several hundred hours visiting Hospice patients. In her last years she was active with the Aztec Doberman Pincher Club, the Rediscovering SD Group and swimming at the Joan Kroc Center in La Mesa. Rosemary will be remembered for her contributions to her students, her community and Hospice patients and their families. Rosemary was an only child and had no children. She is survived by her beloved Doberman, Gigi, who is being well cared for. Her numerous friends and Gigi, would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, La Vida Real M Court and VITAS Hospice for the excellent care she received. In keeping with her wishes there will be no services. She found meaning in the following poem (author unknown) and asked that it be shared:BUTTERFLYI held a child today and took his pain away, and a butterfly flew by.I spoke a word of comfort to a sick and weary friend, and a butterfly flew by.I turned and offered a smile to a sad and lonely heart, and a butterfly flew by.And now I ask you, did a butterfly happen... to fly by you today?

I was so lucky to have known Rosemary, especially after I graduated from Grossmont. Sure I knew her in high school and admired her work with the gymnastics team, but that wasn't my sport. Instead, I reconnected with Rosemary through another awesome Grossmont coach --Alice Bardon (volleyball, basketball and softball). Rosemary joined us and some other friends (including Suzanne Geba--Grossmont English teacher) for summer fishing trips to "Cardinal Lodge" above Bishop. Rosemary was a tireless fisherwoman and would just keep catching those trout unless we gave her another job to do around the cabin. She made us all laugh and was so generous with her energy. Rosemary was a generous, and devoted friend.

What a rich, full life Ms. Reddit traversed! I, too, had her as a PE teacher during my Grossmont years 1967-1970. She was a gem and had such an infectious smile. She truly touched many lives in so many positive ways.

Many of us were blessed to have Rosemary in our lives. She spoke highly of life experiences and the people she has known. Rosemary truly enjoyed a successful life. She was a passionate volunteer with numerous talents and great organizational skills. For years, she set up and operated the raffle drawings for our club, worked events to find forever homes for relinquished dogs, served as a reliable board member, and provided sage advice on many topics. Rosemary's pleasant manner, kinds words, and interest in activities made her a perfect friend. We enjoyed her disaster preparedness presentations, her reminders to be prepared with food, water, flashlights, small bill currency, fueled vehicles, and first aid supplies for family and pets. Rosemary had the most interesting stories of search operations and therapy activities with her working dogs Katie and Berry. My heartfelt sympathy as we grieve the passing of a terrific woman and honor her memory.

Miss Redditt was my PE teacher at GHS as well. I remember her as a great teacher, patient and kind. I was not a great athlete, but in her class it did not matter!

Thank you for such a complete story about her life. I had her for the best PE class ever invented - Individual Sports. She encouraged me to be ambidextrous, which made all the sports even more fun to learn.

So sad to hear of Rosemary's passing. I taught at Grossmont with her, and though I did not know her well, I remember her vividly as a very kind and compassionate person. She will be missed.

So sorry to hear about Rosemary's passing. Teaching with her at Grossmont High School, I always found her to be professional and fun to be around. May God always hold her in the palm of his hand.

Rosemary Redditt was one of my master teachers at Grossmont High School. I always have remembered her calm and clear manner. I distinctly remember when she had to leave campus and assist as a sheriff reservist for the PSA Crash. A great mentor and teacher, who after almost 40 years has my admiration. Rest in Peace Coach
