Bud Gillen Obituary

Bud Gillen, 98, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, in San Luis Obispo. The youngest of three boys, Bud was born in September 1912 in Santa Cruz, Calif., to Charles and May Gillen of California, and graduated from St. Mary''s College in 1937. In 1938, Bud met Irene Lawson on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend. Bud and Irene were married on May 26, 1940, at St. Anne''s Church in San Francisco and they moved to San Luis Obispo. Bud worked at the family business, Home Steam Laundry Company, for a number of years, then retired from being a delivery truck driver at Langendorf Bakery. In retirement, Bud enjoyed many years as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, weekly golf games and traveling. Bud is survived by his four daughters Susan Davis of Escondido, Calif., Judy Curtner (Bert) of Livermore, Calif., Patsy Pando (Rick) and Pam Nakamura of San Luis Obispo; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and beloved wife, Irene. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at Reis Family Mortuary, 991 Nipomo St. in San Luis Obispo, followed by a reception at the Madonna Inn.
