Carol Hoagland Obituary

Carol A. Hoagland was born in February 1930 in Ventura, Calif., to Daniel E. Elledge and Winifred A. (Martin) Elledge, and passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at her home in Arroyo Grande. She spent much of her early years in the Bakersfield area, where she attended Bakersfield Junior College and met and married Robert M. Hoagland. Carol earned her bachelor''s degree and teaching certificate at Redlands University. She taught elementary school for several years before taking some time off to raise her four children. She resumed teaching in Pasadena, Calif., and earned her master''s degree in Early Childhood Education from Pacific Oaks College. Carol was a long time resident of Arroyo Grande. She taught elementary school in the Orcutt School District for many years and enriched the lives of countless children with her creative teaching style. Carol''s hobbies included gardening, sewing and photography. She won several awards for her photos of the rocky California coastline. She was an avid reader and enjoyed books of all kinds. Family was always Carol''s primary focus and she loved visiting her children and grandchildren whenever possible. Her friends and family will greatly miss her warm and caring nature. Carol is survived by her sister, Gloria Wilson; sons James Hoagland and Paul Hoagland; daughter, Kathryn Godwin; and many grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Hoagland; and grandson, Matthew Godwin.

Carol was devoted to family and made distinguished contributions to education and community. She served in the leadership position of president of our chapter from 1978-1982. We are honored to call her "sister" and our thoughts and prayers are with her family
