Christa Bowlin Obituary

1927 ~ 2010 A very special and beautiful lady left this earth in November - Christa Bowlin passed away after a sudden, unexpected illness. Her spirit has returned to God and her immortal soul is on its way to new adventures. In recent months she''d spoken often about how much she missed her mother and her husband, Hap, perhaps anticipating a return to their loving arms. Christa was truly one of the best mothers of all time, and a precious friend to many folks through the years. She was very energetic, vivacious and healthy - a real example of "you''re only as old as you feel." Even in her 80s, she enjoyed swimming several times a week and many walks with her "grand-dog," Drake. Christa loved preparing wonderful dinners and special treats for friends - she''s probably already busy making something for the angels. She was born in Germany and moved to America with her young son, Holger, in the late 1950s. They first came to the Central Coast and she soon met her life-long friend, Gudrun Grell, a very special lady who also recently passed away. A few years later, she married Lt. Col. Hap Bowlin, her dear husband and partner in life for more than 30 years. Their travels and adventures led them around the globe. They came back to settle in Shell Beach in 1983 and enjoyed many joyful retirement years in this special place. Christa was extremely thankful and proud to have been able to come to the United States and earn the privilege of citizenship, truly loving America and all its freedom, opportunity and beauty. While having felt very fortunate to have lived here for 60 years, she would want it known that in recent times she was deeply saddened by the direction the country seemed to be heading. Government policies changed and catered more to corporate and financial greed while the average hard-working person and the environment suffered. As a contributor to many charities, she gave special support to veterans, animal care groups and those trying to preserve and heal the environment. She sends her love to her remaining family and friends in Germany: her sister, Barbara and husband, Dr. Werner Krafft; niece, Tessa; nephew, Bastian; and her long-time friend, Mariechen along with her son, Dieter and family. To her many dear friends here in America, too many to name, Christa sends her love from the heavens. For those who were able to visit during the few days in the hospital, she knows how much you cared. Although Christa will always be missed by those of us who loved her, her memory will live on. She would want everyone to celebrate the good times and laughter that they shared. From Holger: My sincere gratitude to all Mom''s friends that have been so sympathetic and supportive during this sad time. Thanks to the volunteers at Hospice of San Luis Obispo County, who gave their compassion and time. I''ve been blessed to have such a wonderful, loving mother. She''ll always be in my heart, and the memory of her joyous spirit and incredible energy will be an inspiration to me for the rest of my life.

Dearest Christa,

I never had the pleasure of meeting you. However, in many ways I felt like I knew you. My mom, LV, spoke of you often and showed me many of the beautiful pictures she took of you. She also spoke of what a wonderful hostess you were to all who would come to visit and how she enjoyed your time together swimming at the Cliffs.

I so enjoyed hearing the colorful stories and adventures of Christa. And have been inspired by your youthful spirit and zest for life...

Thank you for the stories and for being such a dear friend to my mother.

Christa, your life was like a movie...I can't believe everything you did, lived through...surviving the horrors of World War Two Germany...immigrating to the states as a single parent...before single parenthood was socially "acceptable"...getting through beauty school...working in a new country...running the motel in Vermont...when I think of everything you did and all you lived it makes my head spin around!!! And you always were kind and generous and thoughtful and ebuillient and full of LIFE! Blessings to you wherever you are on your cosmic journey -- love, lulu

Holger, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I was a tenant of your Mother's for six years until last year. She was so sweet and thoughtful....a really wonderful woman.

She would always say to me, "I'll be in big trouble if I ever forget YOUR name - KristI and I'm ChristA." She was a character.

Thinking of your Mom makes me smile.

Dear Christa,

Thank you for turning my life around. When I met you, I was very sad; my partner Rocco had passed away, and the whole family was torn up and off-balance from his death...and I was feeling a bit neglected...last on the totem pole... and then you came along, and voila! It was like a ray of sunshine beamed over my head... you looked into my eyes and saw me for who I was...a lonely little dog, with a family in turmoil! You took me under your wing, took me for walks, gave me baths and massages and your love and time, and got me feeling good about life again. I will always think of you as my champion! I hope wherever you are, you are well and that I see you when I cross over, too. Thank you for all your love, care, time, and intuition.

a nuzzle and a snuggle from Gizmo

Christa loved this country, she was a proud citizen of the U.S.A. and she had the utmost respect for those that volunteer to defend our values and our way of life. She was very thankful for her life in California and she loved living in the Central Coast.
We will miss our times with Christa, her sparkling personality and zest for life were truly an inspiration.

I was so shocked to see this, and so very sorry for your loss, Holger. Your mother was one of my very favorite patients at Dr. Morrison's office. I always looked forward to seeing her and she was such great fun to talk to. She was definitely the bright spot of my day! The delicious berries, avocados and such that she brought in, she was so thoughtful. And she loved you so much, you were always in her heart.
She is going to be missed by so many people. What a special person.
Blessings to you and your sweet mother

Holger, I have never met you, but your Mom was so proud of you. I haven't seen her for a couple of years, but she used to join us at the Basin Street Regular monthly sessions. And, when Jerry Rendino was alive Christa, Jerry, and I had many FUN times together. She was a wonerful lady, and I hope she didn't suffer. Pat Spino, Pismo Bch.
