Dortha Frasier Obituary

Dortha Evelyn Hulbert Frasier''s long and full life began on a family farm in Pittsburg Kansas in July 1917. As a girl she cooked for the harvest crew, during which neighboring farmers converged on each other''s farms to help bring in the harvest. One of the men included her soon to be husband, Eugene Forrest Frasier (Scoop). Scoop and Dortha moved to Bakersfield in 1932 where Scoop worked as a carpenter and later as a building contractor. They vacationed often in Morro Bay, and eventually moved there in 1959 intending to make it their retirement home. Instead, Scoop continued working as a general contractor and built the Frasier Motel in Morro Bay. Dortha and Scoop managed the restaurant and motel for many years. Dortha was also known as "Dottie" by her friends and "Sayda" by her family. She continued to live in Morro Bay after her husband died in 1997, and moved to the Alder House in 2004. Her life came to a close on Thursday, October 7, 2010. She is survived by her children, Jerry and Karen; six granddaughters; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. She also leaves her dear nephew Keith, who has helped her countless times over the years. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Alder House for giving her loving care for five and a half years, as well as the staff at Carmel Home for the Elderly during the last six months of her life. A viewing and celebration of Dortha''s life will take place at 11am, Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at Benedict-Rettey Mortuary in Morro Bay. Benedict-Retty 772-7382 Morro Bay

Over the past 35 years I worked at the Morro Bay Library. Dottie was a frequent borrower and I remember her well as a gracious, kind and encouraging person. She will be missed.
