As a friend of his sister's, I knew Doug Keifer as a teenager who grew into a beautiful young man. Doug was smart, warm, thoughtful, extremely witty, very handsome, and was of course, the lifelong owner of a sensitive soul. I know that Doug, like so many of us, struggled with the hurdles in his life, and although I had not seen him in many years, I always wished for him to succeed. Shirley, I am so sorry. The loss of a child to the mother is stunning and is a true test of whatever path of faith you choose to follow. I wish you peace. Any of us who knew Doug, whether it was as a teenager, or in later life, will never forget his warmth and beautiful smile.

Thank you for your courageous fight, your gentleness, your compassion. I wish you well on your journey. Please know that you left behind many who loved you, and I hope you are feeling that love now.

Shirley and Kim,
This is a time that we don't get "practice" at becoming 'good' at. We just have to keep going forward one step at a time and have faith that every day might become just a tiny bit easier. My heart goes out to you and all of Doug's community. I know that he has left a deep wound for you. REmember the good times and the memories that you made together.
To Shirley, my deepest condolences and to Kim, the same....I'm sending you both the very best.

Doug was such a dear friend and person! Never did I ever hear him say an unkind word about anyone. He was the genuine article--a true lover of God and Christ and he is with them. My love goes to my dear friend, his wife, Debbie and his mother Shirley. And rest assured, we shall all meet again.

Dearest Debbie and Shirley: I shall always remember what a fine person your beloved Doug was. He shall be missed by many but most of all by the two of you and my heart goes out to both of you. I'm so sorry that Doug is no longer with us - he definitely added to the World. Love and hugs, Holly Lindenthaler

Dear Shirley and family, My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of your loss. I met Doug briefly, and remember his presentation at the Mental Health Advisory Board meeting. I was so impressed, and saw him as a real light in this world.
