Evan Courter Obituary

Evan Bradley Courter entered heaven Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010. Evan was born December 1979 in Northridge, Calif., and moved with the family to Paso Robles in 1990. In Evan''s early life, he was involved in 4-H. He raised poultry, hogs and rabbits and was involved in several groups, such as arts and crafts, leathercraft, horticulture, vegetable gardens and leadership. Through leadership, he became a County "All-Star" and eventually became a State "Diamond Star," 4-H''s highest honor. In high school, Evan loved the band. He played the clarinet, tenor sax, bass clarinet and contra bass clarinet. He was in the Paso Robles High School Jazz Band, Marching Band and the County and State Honor Bands. He was the Drum Major his senior year and won several trophies for his skill. Even after high school, he continued to mentor with the high school band and spent countless hours helping during marching season. Evan attended Cal Poly, where he was also a member of their marching band. He also played with the Jazz Band at Cuesta College. Evan went on to work with his dad at Daystar Enterprises and made a name for himself in the landscape industry. This helped him gain a job in sales and warehousing at Ewing Irrigation. In his free time, Evan was an avid reader and also enjoyed computer gaming and spending time with his friends and family. Evan is survived by his parents, Bruce and Carrie Courter of Paso Robles; sisters Erin Westmoreland (Reuben) of Paso Robles, Erica Green (Corey) of Festus, Mo., and Denise Gephart (David) of Las Vegas, Nev.; paternal grandparents, Everett and Mildred Courter; seven nephews and nieces; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at Highlands Church, 215 Oak Hill Road in Paso Robles. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paso Robles High School Band Backers, P.O. Box 3346, Paso Robles, CA 93447. Kuehl-Nicolay Funerals 238-4383 Paso Robles

Evan was no doubt, smiling today as the band honored him at the memorial. He loved the PRHS Marching Band. I have lots of memories of Evan and his sisters riding the school bus.....we had lots of conversations and laughs. I will always remember Evan at the game on Friday night and his excitement and joy when we scored all the touchdowns and he was grinning from ear to ear as the band began playing.....Evan was always in his element when he was with the band. We'll miss you Evan.

Evan touched me deeply in particular one frantic day on the band bus when I was rushing in to be mama bear...

Evan cautioned me quietly offering me a different perspective I hadn't considered before. It was a growth moment for me as a parent that afforded my son space to mature too. When I feel the need to rush in, I still picture Evan's quiet calm and consider other options.

Thank you for that blessing Evan and thank you to his family, band and friends who helped Evan grow to grace.

Bruce, Carrie, and family,

We remember so many fun times with the Band. Evan always had a smile, a positive attitude and influence on all those that knew him. He was a great leader, friend, and example. Evan's smile and laughter was contagious and even though we have not seen your family since moving away, those times will never leave out memories, Evan will always be with us.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the family and we will keep you in our hearts over the coming days, weeks, and months. Thank you for sharing your wonderful son. The heavens are much brighter now.

I am at a loss for words of the grief that the Courter family must be enduring. When I think of my days in band, the first person that comes to mind is Evan. I always had a great amount of respect for his passion and commitment to music and his fellow classmates. Never was there a dull moment in band or the other classes we had together throughout middle school and high school. I recall the countless conversations we had about family, sharing stories and being able to joke together.

To Bruce, Carrie, Erin, Erica and Denise; may you hold each other tight while you find peace to your emptiness and heartache.

Evan, please give Aubrey a hug for me..

Bruce, Carrie and family,

I was so sorry to hear of your Evans passing.
I had just taken Evan to Arroyo Grande to the band compitition and boy was he beaming with all of the awards that the band won when we all got back to the bus. It was such a privledge to have had the pleasure to know him and your family while you were involved with the band.

Evan was such a nice young man always there to help. I am so sorry and I hope that all of your wonderful memories help you through this difficult time. There is a new "Star" shinnig down from the heavens tonight.

I have known the Courter family since I was a young girl, spending time with their family is amongst a lot of great memories I have from child hood. We remember Evan fondly from our son Ben's years with the PRHS marching, concert and jazz bands. Evan was a talented, kind and most devoted member of those groups. We send you our love and support as you grieve the passing of your beloved Evan. Know that the stars shine brighter because he is now amongst them and surrounded by light, laughter and peace. We will hold you in our hearts throughout the upcoming days, weeks, and months.

Such a brilliant, shining star that flew from our view way too soon. Evan and I were Bass Clarinetists together in our high school band and we had a great time together. Most of my fondest memories of band have Evan and his easy smile and kind nature at the heart. My sincere condolences to Bruce, Carrie, Erin and Erica and the rest of Evan's family and close friends.
