Francis Elliott Obituary

USAF Catholic Chaplain The family of Francis Lee Elliott (FLE) mourns his passing on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010. FLE, former resident of Morro Bay, most recently of Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains, N.J., was born in January 1926 in New York City, the only child of Johanna and John Elliott. In March 1959, he was recalled by Cardinal Spellman to be a Chaplain in the Archdiocese for the Military Service, USA. His ministry in the U.S. Air Force took him to a long list of bases in the United States and abroad. As a base Chaplain, he had the responsibility for all of the chapel programs for the three major faith groups. He served on the Commander''s staff and acted as his advisor in religious, moral, ethical and morale matters. FLE retired from the Uniformed Military Services in 1977 due to illness. In retirement, he was a lecturer in Physics and Mathematics at Cal Poly. FLE was a member of the Benedictine Third Order, Sir Knight of the Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus, member of the American Legion and a retired member of the Archdiocese of the Military Services, USA. FLE is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Adelaid T. Harmon-Elliott, and predeceased by his parents. Services have been held. He was interned at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Chaplain Francis Lee Elliott (Ret.), to the Archdiocese for the Military Services, P.O. Box 4469, Washington D.C. 20001-0469.
