George Bernardo Obituary

George Bernardo was born in March 1922 in Tacoma, Wash., and passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011. He lived for many years in Seattle, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Vernita Antes in 1944. He joined the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a fighter pilot in Europe, where he flew P51s. After the War, George worked for Boeing for 30 years - he was a part of the Apollo mission that flew to the moon. In 1961, they moved to Shell Beach, where he became the local scout master. He was an avid golfer and member of La Sage and Black Lake Golf Courses, and was also a member of the Shell Beach Methodist Church. Some of his hobbies included woodworking, stained glass and traveling. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. George is survived by his wife, Vernita Bernardo; children Georgeann Burns (Bob) of Dallas, Ore., Jim Bernardo (Perris) of Avila Beach, Sharon Bennett (Jack) of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Charline Clark of Eugene, Ore.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. There will be no service.

Hi, sorry for your loss, I was one of his Boy Scouts in Shell Beach, he was a great guy, he gave me a Stamp Collection when I lived in Shell Beach over on Montecito St, I remember when son Jim fell out of a tree and broke his arm! We were all tree climbers! That was back in the 60s, good days! Campouts with the Scouts, Take Care, Larry Land 544-7610.

I often remember those days in Shell Beach on Capistrano Street and later at St. Ann's. Your dad did have alot of stories to tell. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
