James Davis Obituary

James Robert Davis, 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at his Paso Robles home. Distinguished by his characteristically calm and kind demeanor, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Though a gentleman, Jim is perhaps best remembered for his humor, never at a loss for a witty remark delivered in his understated southern accent. Born in Hillsborough, N.C., Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War soon after high school graduation. Upon conclusion of the War, he returned to his home state to marry his own southern belle sweetheart, Pansy Ann Hicks on May 9, 1953. Soon after, he graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor''s degree in civil engineering. In 1963, Jim moved his family to California when Western Electric transferred him to Oxnard, Calif. Upon his retirement in 1989, he and Pansy moved to a small farm in Paso Robles. Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Pansy Davis; children James Davis Jr. (Stephanie), Greg Davis (Belinda) and Amy Davis-Hjortland (John); grandchildren Lindsey Davis, Sarah Davis, Jake Hjortland and Tyler Hjortland; and sister, Ann Harward. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to your favorite Veterans fund.
