Lou Robinson Obituary

Lou Robinson Louis "Lou" Robinson was born in 1934 in Texas and moved to Los Angeles at a very early age. He attended school in Los Angeles, was an altar boy and sang in a choir led by Robert Wagner. After high school he served in the Marine Corps and then went on to attend UC Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley, from which he graduated with a degree in Political Science. He and his wife Ann met while they were both working in San Francisco and were married on Christmas Day, 1966. Lou began his career as a journalist and moved on to writing and publishing high technology newsletters. He wrote the novel "The Devil, Delfina and the Used Chevy." In 1996 he and his wife Ann moved to San Luis Obispo where he volunteered for local organizations. Lou especially loved the arts and also working with children. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and love of action. He was an inspiration to those who knew him. He was a volunteer in local schools and also served on several nonprofit boards, including Opera San Luis Obispo, San Luis Little Theater and Cal Poly Arts. Lou is survived by his wife, Ann; sister-in-law, Jane Stewart, and her husband Paul and niece and nephew Jennifer and Andrew Stewart, to whom he was the beloved "Uncle Louie." In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Opera San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo Little Theater, Raising a Reader or a children's organization. Sorry to hear of Lou's passing. "Vital" is the word that comes to mind when I think of the time that I spent with him and Ann during the early days of my political campaign. He was always supportive, funny, kind, and yes -- vital.

I'm so very very very sorry to hear of Lou's passing. Very grateful I was able to see him shortly before. Even a few days prior to his death, Lou had his characteristic charm and sense of humor. I didn't know Lou except to know that he was a solid rock for Ann. Ann and I were in the same dorm at Stanford and have stayed in touch off and on over the years. I have been thinking of her a lot these days that must be so hard.

Lou was special, and his passing has affected a lot of people, many of whom he knew only slightly. He was one of those rare people with whom anyone was happy to share a table at events. He brought fun to every situation and found some connection that made you feel special (in my case it was our shared history singing with Roger Wagner many, many years ago). His knowledge of opera was astounding, and his passion for the arts was genuine and compelling. He will always be fondly remembered by many people.

So sad to find out about Lou's passing. I knew he and Ann from the Avila Bay Club and he was always one of my favorite members because of his humor. He will be missed.
