I remember so many things about Mark. He showed me where to find Russel Flats. He took me with him to get huge red Abs above the breakwater on a minus tide. I remember when he started calling everyone by their name spelled backwards.
Mark had incredible eyesight. I remember on an inconsistent day surfing at St. Ann's, he could see the set coming long before anyone else. I finally figured out that I needed to keep my eye on him, instead of the horizon. If he started easing to the outside, it was time to follow.
The Avila kids were a pretty close knit group when I moved there the summer before 8th grade, and Mark was a friend almost immediately.
Rest in peace, Mark. Say hello to Mit and Ffej.

Mark, it's Amber Duncan here. I'm sorry my friend. Would you tell Jeff I love him. I spoke to The Poodle, and we are all saddened, surprised, and shocked. With you and Jeff up there, who's left to fish here. The Big Guy has to leave someone down here. The good guys are going fast.
May you be in eternal peace,
Mrs. Jeff Duncan, he left us 1-4-10
P.S. BOYS...take it easy on the others.

Cousin Mark and I would always play with my sisters and his brother and sisters in Avila Beach. I remember having a lot of fun in those days. I'm sorry I never got to see him after those young years. He will now be with my younger sister and also my husband. My heart goes out to those who were closest to him in SLO. I will add his family to my ongoing genealogy.

I first met Mark when we were about 12 years old, he was a little shy, really cute and had such a killer smile. I had a big crush for sure. Over the years, I would seem him occasionally around san luis and we would talk a little and catch up. He was always very kind to me and I really appreciated that. My heartfelt condolences to the Lepley family. Kerry Murphy Cirone
