Tom Lim Obituary

Tom Suenhim Lim
September 21, 1934 - December 2, 2012
Resident of Santa Cruz
Tom Suenhim Lim passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 2nd, after a year long struggle with cancer. He touched many lives with his kindness and gentle spirit.
Tom was born in Canton, China in 1934. He emigrated to the United States with his aunt and uncle in 1950 where he settled in Santa Cruz, CA. Separated by an ocean and a closed communist country, he never forgot his parents or siblings and often sent money home for their care. After 30 years of separation, he was finally reunited with his parents and siblings when they were allowed to emigrate to the U.S.
Tom graduated from Santa Cruz High School and served 2 years in the U.S. Army at Camp Leroy Johnson in Louisiana. He started his working career in the grocery business and worked at Foodland, Camp Evers Store in Scotts Valley, before completing his produce career at the Scotts Valley Zanotto's Market. Early in life he enjoyed photography but his real passion was tinkering with electronic devices and repairing televisions.
Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris Lim; daughter, Judy Dropping, son-in-law Barry Dropping, and grandchildren Lauren and David of Corralitos; son, Alan Lim, daughter-in-law Kathy Lim, and grandsons Andrew and Matthew of San Jose. He is also survived by three younger brothers, and a younger sister.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 11am to 12:30pm; funeral and burial services following at 1pm, at Oakwood Memorial Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz. A very nice man. I remember him at Camp Evers when I was a young boy in the 70's. I recognized his face immediately upon reading the obits today. My condolences go to the family.
