Vera Ann Pulido died unexpectedly from natural causes on December 11, 2012. She was 65 years old.
Born and raised in Hanford, CA, Vera was the daughter of Ruben and Eva Pulido (deceased). When her family moved to Santa Cruz, she attended Santa Cruz High School.
Vera pursued her college education at Northridge State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. She completed graduate studies at San Jose State, receiving a Master of Arts degree in education.
In 1975, Vera joined the faculty of Cabrillo College. It was her "second home" for 35 years while she devoted her life to students as an instructor of health, physical education and recreation. Her intelligent and stalwart leadership propelled her appointment to Chief Negotiator for the Cabrillo College Federation of Teachers and her acumen in educational administration eventually secured her promotion to Division Chairperson. As a champion of college athletics, Vera dedicated 10 years to coaching the Cabrillo Women's Softball Team, selflessly serving as a mentor and sage to countless numbers of young women.
Retiring from Cabrillo College in 2010, Vera loved spending time with her three adorable dogs: PJ, Lola and Molly. She enjoyed taking vacation cruises and traveling with friends. She was an avid reader, a computer enthusiast, a spirited poker player and an accomplished seamstress.
Vera is survived by her step-mother Mercedes Pulido, brother Richard Pulido, sister-in-law Carol Pulido, nieces Vanessa and Courtney Pulido, nephew Scott Pulido, beloved pet companions and scores of dear friends. She was a source of enlightenment and compassion to students, friends and family. She will truly be missed.
A celebration honoring Vera's life will be held at a future time. Donations in her memory may be sent to the Cabrillo College Foundation-Women's Athletics, 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA 95003.

On behalf of the members of the internet community known as Shihtzu-L, I would like to extend our sincere condolences. Vera and her 'trio' were active and beloved members of our list and will be sorely missed. Her last post was on Nov 9, 2012, when she offered her condolences and prayers for another list member who had lost their furkid. She and her friend "KD the Wonder Dog" joined us sometime in 1999, and were fixtures on the list, offering words of encouragement and wisdom to all of us. Rest in peace, Vera, and may the God of all comfort be with your family.

I was a student of Vera's in the 90's and was going through some tough times as a single parent of 3 adolescents, one of which I brought to school with me while she was enrolled in independent studies. Vera took her under her wing - the bond she had with my daughter and the influence she had on both of us will never be forgotten! We loved & appreciated her strength, will & compassion for us and others! She will be missed, but I am so thankful for being one of many who has had the privilege of being taught & mentored by her! Enjoy your life beyond the clouds, Vera! We love you!

My heartfelt condolences to Vera's family and friends. I knew Vera through collegiate softball. I coached at San Diego Mesa College and we had many years together in the "softball world ". She was such a joy to be around. Much to young to leave us. She will be truly missed!

I just did hear of Vera's passing and am totally in shock that she has been so suddenly pulled from our lives. I only knew her online but feel as a deep hole in my life has been created in the absence she has left. Rest well, dear Vera, you have earned your wings.

Vera was always such a strong and vital spirit. I remember her in high school as an energetic and positive girl with a bright smile, and I was so happy to reconnect with her over Facebook this last year. I first met Vera in high school on a softball trip. Then years later I had the honor of playing for her at Cabrillo. She was a great coach. Had a biting, sarcastic wit. And really knew how to get the best out of her players. Thank you Vera, I'm better for having known you.
