Patricia Virgadamo Obituary

Patricia "Trish" Virgadamo
July 21, 1949 - June 30, 2017
Bonny Doon
Patricia "Trish" Virgadamo, age 67, passed away peacefully after a long illness, surrounded by her husband and daughters. Born in 1949 in Pasadena, CA, to parents Michael and Eleanor (nee Marin) Virgadamo and brother Michael Jr., she attended Westridge School before enrolling at UCLA. A love of art and history led her to a study of Ancient Egyptian Art, and she fulfilled a dream in 1997 of traveling to Egypt and walking through the Valley of the Kings. While a graduate student at UCLA, she met a young student of architecture by the name of Tom Conerly, and quickly fell in love. Over the next five years they lived in the LA area and traveled to Mexico and Guatemala, before marrying in 1976. In 1977, they moved to the Santa Cruz area; that was also the same year that their first daughter, Melissa was born, followed by Elizabeth in 1979. Trish's spirited and compassionate personality led her to a career in the Human Resources department for UCSC, where she worked for 18 years before her retirement in 2004. Her first grandchild, Ryan, was born to Elizabeth in 2010, and Cameron joined his brother in 2012. She loved her grandchildren intensely, and delighted in taking them to new places and teaching them about the world. She also adored her sons-in-law Scott and Aaron. Throughout her life, a love of family, friends, art, history, food, and travel led to lively dinnertime conversations, endless learning, exploration of new places and people, and a home that all felt welcomed in. We will all miss her very much.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 30th, 2017 at 3:00pm at the Santa Cruz Yacht Club (244 4th Ave, Santa Cruz). Please contact [email protected] or call (831) 458-9510 for details. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center or the American Cancer Society.

Trish and I both have a love of Egypt. We had many conversations about it. I was impressed with her knowledge and love of the subject. She was a genuinely warm and loving person. My condolences to her family and all who loved her.

Such sad news! I was Trish's first supervisor at UCSC (I was then Sharyn Pannell)and we became good friends. I haven't seen her since the Olympic Torch carry in Santa Cruz. She was truely a lovely lady.
