Jennifer Lind Obituary

Jennifer Lind Passed away on October 18, 2011 at the age of 68. Jenny was born on December 12, 1942 to Betty and John Lind in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. The Lind family moved to Santa Fe in 1948. As a young girl, Jenny was an avid skier and, in 1958, represented New Mexico at the Western American Legion Ski Races in Sun Valley, Idaho. She was also an accomplished equestrian and competed in Santa Fe riding gymkhanas and in Tesuque Valley Horse Shows. Her love of horses continued throughout her life, eventually becoming the dominant theme in her artistic work. While studying painting at the University of New Mexico, Jenny began her lifelong association with clay. She eventually began painting on clay, producing ceramic work for which she became known and respected. She exhibited nationally and taught numerous workshops, demonstrating her technique of drawing and painting on ceramics. In addition to her personal work, in 1984, Jenny and her husband, Allan Walter, began a small business, "Animals & Co.", making porcelain animal teapots, pitchers and vases designed by Jenny. The work was made in their converted horse stables next to their home in La Cienega. Sold throughout the United States in various craft stores, catalogs, and upscale department stores, Jenny's art became widely recognized. In 1995, Jenny and her husband refocused their energies on hand painted ceramic dinnerware and created the new company "Rainbow Gate", which continues to operate as both studio and retail outlet on Sandoval St. Jenny is survived by her husband, Allan Walter; her three children, Anna Marie Masterson of Santa Fe, Jessica Gettemy of Katy, Texas, and Joshua Masterson of Seattle, Washington; five grandchildren, Orion Masterson, Maya and Parker Masterson, and Aidan and Elias Gettemy. Jenny is also survived by her sisters, Mary Lind Beck of Burlington, Vermont and Alice Lind Griffith of Denver, Colorado. A memorial service for Jenny will be held Saturday, October 29th at 4 p.m. at Sunrise Springs in La Cienega. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Santa Fe Horse Shelter.

By coincidence, I just thought of Jenny the other day. She will not be forgotten. R.I.P.

Jenny was an inspiration to me and a leader through the strength of her talents and personality. She created beauty and joy in the world and in the spirits of others. I knew her as my pottery teacher when I first came to Santa Fe, and for many years thereafter. I'm saddened to learn that she has died so young, whatever the cause.

Dear Allan Walter: Although we have not known each other for very long, I was not really knowledgeable on how long you and Jennifer were involved in the community.
I had found out about her love for horses and their influence on her life--and yours--through a friend of mine.
I am sorry to hear that such a wonderful person as left us.
Please take care of yourself.

Jenny joined the writing class I was teaching in Pecos. The brevity yet the depth of her work was nothing short of astonishing. I only knew her a short while but she truly added a new dimension to my own life. There's no doubt she touched the world with her great spirit.

I was a classmate of Jennifer but didn't have many classes. I always envied her in that she was very athletic and it showed. Neat gal, very personable. I'm glad I met her.

Jenny and I were friends in SFHS. I considered her "creatively inspirational and extremely talented". How I wish we had stayed in touch. My sympathy and prayers are with her family during this very sad time. How blessed I have been to have had Jenny in my life, even for such a short time. God Bless.

I knew Jenny by meeting her and Alan at a local meditation center. She had a great spirit and zest for life. She was also a smart businesswoman and I enjoyed every minute of working for her and and Alan at Animals and Company down in La Cienega. I am sad to hear of her passing and know she did have a wonderful life. God Speed!

I have fond memories of Jenny. We lived next door to each other in Tesuque. The last time I visited Santa Fe, I went into her store, "Rainbow Gate." It is so colorful and happy in the store. That is how I will remember Jenny. My thoughts and prayers to her family.

Went to SFHS as well as grade school with Jenny. Received a lovely blue pitcher as a wedding gift and think of her when I use it! She was a gifted artist and will be missed . God be with her family. Susan Lowndes Robbins ( Mesa, Az.)

I, also, attended SFHS with Jenny - there was a group of about 12 girls who ran around together. When I heard the sad news I looked in my old (1959) yearbook and found two lovely drawings she drew for me. My sincere sympathy to your family.
