Benjamin Koens Obituary
Benjamin (Ben) George Koens, age 89 passed away November 20, 2010. He was born September 3, 1921 in Lismore, Minnesota to the late Henry and Emma Koens of Adrian, Minnesota. He attended schools in Adrian, MN. August 3, 1947 Ben married Agnes Staeffler and they moved to Santa Maria, CA in 1962. He joined the California Pipefitters Trade Local 114 in 1962 and he retired in 1986. He joined the Elks in 1977 and was a member for 33 years. Ben enjoyed playing cards with family and doing woodwork.
Ben is survived by his wife of 63 years, Agnes Koens, Children Janet Faust (Ronnie) of Killen, AL, Robert Koens (Valerie) of Excelisior, MN, Wayne Koens (Peggy) of Visialia, CA, Marvin Koens (companion Susan Henson) of Arroyo Grande, Lyle Koens of Nipomo, CA, and Susan Albertoni (Anthony) of Santa Maria, Grandchildren Tamara Faust Jaroszewski (Todd), Tonia Faust Belcher (Mike), Tabatha Faust Allen (Jamie), Lindsey Koens, Kelli Koens Moussa (George), Kate Koens, Kristy Koens Larralde (Daniel), Beau Koens, Tiffany Koens Rodriguez (Anthony), Jacob Koens, Cory Koens, Troy Albertoni, and Tracy Albertoni, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren. Brothers George Koens of Santa Barbara, Henry Koens (companion Millie Rajeans) of Santa Maria, sister Annette Warntjes of Carson, CA, Brother-in-law Marlowe DePauw of Souix Falls, South Dakota as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Emma Koens and sister Hilda DePauw of Souix Falls, South Dakota.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Santa Maria Cemetery. Pallbears will be Grandsons, Beau Koens, Jacob Koens, Cory Koens, Troy Albertoni, Travis MacDonald and Daniel Larradle.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Villa Maria care center or Elks Lodge 1538.
A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Villa Maria and Marian West and Dr. Debral.
