Carmen Lopez Obituary
Carmen Flores Lopez
Dec. 5, 1931- Oct. 9, 2010
In loving memory of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, godmother, and friend, who unexpectedly passed away on October 9, 2010, at the age of 78, surrounded by her children. She was born in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, and resided in Santa Monica, Tijuana, Mazatlan, as well as Santa Maria/Guadalupe, CA.
Services were held on October 13-14 in Tijuana. B.C. with a rosary and Holy Mass at her local parish San Miguel. She is survived by her brother Ramon Flores-Mazatlan Mexico; four children: Susannah Lopez Santana-Van Nuys, CA., Rocio del Carmen Lopez Vallejo- Santa Maria, CA, Mark Aurelio Lopez-San Diego, CA., and Pedro (Pete) Abraham Lopez-Maui, HI; three grandchildren: Carlos Santana, Amanda Montes and Jessalyn Lopez: and one great-grandchild Yaretzi Gema Santana; and many cousins in the San Diego and Los Angeles area, including her special niece Amanda Sarali Espinoza.
She was preceded in death by her mother Carmen Aragon Velarde, brother Daniel Quillopo, and her best friend/cousin Maria Gil Aguilar.
Carmen was a strong woman who loved life and travel. She loved her native land of Mexico and visited each state of Mexico. Her passion was her children and grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic who attended Mass, at times twice a day.
She raised her children in Guadalupe for many years, later moved to San Diego and most recently to her home in Tijuana.
Her son Mark visited her weekly. They enjoyed many special times together, going to the Casino and eating out. One of her lifelong dreams was to visit New York and in 1998 her youngest son Pete, made that wish come true. Every photo of Carmen taken in New York is with joy and elation.
She accomplished many things in life, including her Associates degree from Palomar College in Vista, CA. at the age of fifty without much previous schooling.
Carmen touched many lives in her lifetime, especially those who were in need, the hard working poor, and more often children in need. If anyone complimented her on anything in her possession, she would instantly give that item to the person without hesitation. Such gifts are eternally cherished.
She is missed greatly by her Family, the void in our hearts will be constantly present.
Many thanks to the Lopez, Aguirre, Laurel, Casias and Ramirez Families, and so many others for your support, novenas and prayers through this difficult time.
